It has been an interesting couple of days, although tiring. I travelled down to Melaka straight after clinic yesterday, arriving at Hospital Melaka at around 3, in plenty of time before my first talk.
I swore that it took the same amount of time to travel from KL to Ayer Keroh and from Ayer Keroh to the hospital even though it was much nearer. It was down to the number of traffic lights between the highway exit and the city center. The first thing I quoted at the start of my lecture yesterday was I went to school in Melaka, and I love he place. The town has since evolved as a beacon on independence and fairness.
All the traffic lights into town were independent of each other and it did not matter if you were coming from the main artery road into town or a side road with only a couple of cars, everybody at the traffic light junction would get 20 seconds to clear. It was madness.
I was put up at Renaissance, a place my parents used to stay when they visited me at school years ago. I can't really remember specifically how the place was back then, but I was surprised at how small the hotel looked now. It used to be called Ramada back then, and as I recalled it was the main hotel in town.
The room was comfortable, although a bit moldy. I sure had a nice sleep last night as earlier in the evening I was taken to a Nyonya restaurant for a hearty meal. Woke up very early to check out, had breakfast - which was much better than I expected - and off I went back to Hospital Melaka for my second talk early on Saturday morning.
Now that the talks were done, I joined up with the CML support group - Max Family for their patient gathering. I will escape back to KL just before lunch. Have a birthday party to attend this evening.
