Baba Can Cook. That was the motto at the entrance. A cafe called Limapulo - how certain dialect pronounce 50 in Malay - at the heart of Heritage Row, opposite Sheraton Hotel in the middle of town. The spot would be just right for a trendy wine bar, but instead the proud owner of the cafe championed Peranakan Food instead. And the place was quite good.

At least the desserts were to die for!

Baba can definitely cook! You can sit outside if you preferBut the vibe was definitely better inside ....Time to order ....It was a Saturday afternoon, and I just got off work and Anita just needed to unwind after doing preparations for the boys who would start their school year next Monday. I finished my clinic late and was home only after seeing a couple of new cases, plus a quick meal at the mamak as a late lunch. So I was not exactly hungry when I reached home.

The weather had been nice all day, so Anita asked to go out. The initial plan was to head to KLPAC and have a nice cup of coffee there. It turned out that the place was jammed pack as there was an event taking place there. We didn't bother stopping and quickly decided to go some place else. Then I remembered Limapulo from the suggestion from my fellow KLickrs. Off we went!

Some of the collectibles on display .... neat and rustic! And we were not disappointed. The owner was there sitting at the door as the place were just being cleaned when we arrived. After waiting for 10 minutes, the door was opened.

We were struck by the cool and rustic ambiance - the way Anita liked it! The owner - a Chinese Peranakan from Melaka who speaks better Malay than myself - came over and asked what we had in mind. He suggested a few items and we finally settled for laksa, nasi lemak, cendol and ABC.

The taste was definitely there. The ABC was especially impressive and you could tell that they paid particular attention to the ingredients. Although I was full, I managed to finish all the items.

The nasi lemak came firstThen came the laksaAnita was happy!Time to go!The place was worth a visit from the decorations alone. The owner had family heirlooms as well as collectible antiques he picked up over the years at the store. Not particularly big, they had tables both inside the shop as well as at the sidewalk. Next to it was a multipurpose hall which one could rent for parties. Excellent.

Parking was not great however. I managed to side park my Starex - achievement unlocked! - at the side walk. Alternatively you could park either at Sheraton or Quill City Mall opposite.

I would definitely recommend the place and judging from what was written online, I was not alone in enjoying the visit. How much did I pay for the whole thing? Less than RM30! I was impressed!
