Truckin while Waitin

It would become a routine from now on. Idlan will attending tuition in Melawati every Tuesday evening. Anita would stay in Gombak after school and should I have time, I would be joining her in Melawati while waiting for Idlan to finish his class.

While waiting, there were a few food trucks near the tuition venue. We decided to sample some pasta and were pleasantly surprised. My carbonara was superbly done and I must say that in was impressed. The only problem were the variety. There were three trucks parked there and all three seemed to have almost identical menu. Mainly Italian and Mediterranean.

I was pretty sure I've seen this before

Luckily there were a few more traditional restaurants around there. So, should we became sick of those cheesy offering, there would always be tomyam.

I must say I recognised the truck from the recent Foodgasm Fest we attended back in November. We didn't get to sample the food then since they ran out of food. Now we knew why the food ran out. They were rather good.

Looking forward to next week...

Exposure+6 Exhibition

I heard that one of my friend was organising an exhibition at the new Nikon Centre opposite Low Yat Plaza starting last weekend. I got curious and decided to have a look. I was in clinic during the opening event, so I made do with a quiet visit.

It was Monday but it was a public holiday for Thaipusam. The town was rather quiet despite the gorgeous sunny weather. The Nikon Centre itself was quiet when I entered, allowing me to have a look in peace.

The exhibit featured four photographers who mainly do the bulk of their work locally. Despite the venue, I doubt that all of them used Nikon.

The place itself was small but cosy. None of the staffs there bothered me when I walked by, especially since I had with me a camera - which was not a Nikon. The theme appeared open. But a couple of the exhibits worth commenting on. The first was a series by Wang Seok Mui. He was a third generation Chinese Malaysian and he along with cousins went to China in search of his ancestral village and the series of photos documented the journey. I felt that the narrative was still unfinished and it was something worth pursuing. The photos were simple but atmospheric, richly printed. Personally, it would have been better if the story was told in a more elaborate series of photos. Maybe in the years to come, there would be a closure to the storyline.

The second one was on the work by Fitri Jalil. He tried to explore the meaning and ultimately the distinction between being a Malay and Moslem in contemporary Malaysia. He had some good points but with only less than 10 prints on display, many "reading between the lines" were needed. He stopped short of going into the current elements of Arabinisation which seemed to be the rage nowadays.

On the whole, it was too short although sweet. Nothing earth shattering although the appeared to be more organised that the recent Guerrilla Exhibition at Avenue K. Would definitely be keen to see what Exposure+7 had to offer.

Times Square Monkey

We went to Low Yat this afternoon to get Anita's iPhone screen fixed. It was OK, not as expensive as we thought and it was done within half an hour. Anita was happy, until iPhone 7 was out. The phone should be OK for the next few months at least.

After a quick lunch, we walked across to Berjaya Times Square for Anita to do a bit of shopping. Me on the other hand went to visit an exhibit at the Nikon Centre across from Low Yat.

At the main foyer, they had a huge monkey - since it would be the year of the Monkey next. But it came with a couple of antennae. To be honest, it started to look like an ant with its big eyes from certain angle.

Well, after the shopping was done I stopped over at Starbucks for a quick later before heading back to Low Yat where we parked out car. The road wasn't full but the parking lots were. I guess people do like to go out to shopping malls like me...

Cousins Were Back

My Mum had a bit of fever and we brought her for a check-up - dengue test negative - and stayed at the apartment over the weekend.

Julia came to visit and the moment her children arrived, my boys had been asking if they would stay overnight. It was a long weekend after all with Monday being a holiday for Thaipusam.

No wonder they slept late! Not sure what they were up to ..Looking through the old LEGO bitsSo, came the cue for a trip for junk-food shopping followed by early sushi dinner. Then the havoc started when we reached home again. More pizza and junk food ensued. Plus video games party of course.

They were all still asleep when I got up for my ward round this morning. Not sure what Julia's plan or what time she was coming over to pick the girls up. Mum also feeling much better and might be heading back to Bukit Antarabangsa today.

Them Oranges

You knew that Chinese New Year was coming from the oranges lying around in the wards. And I certs it got plenty of them already. Had to give most of them away from the clinic and wards since there were just too many of them to bring back. But the good ones would always be carried back home. And the box I got yesterday from one of my patients certainly fit that bill!

They were succulent and sweet. Better not finish them all in one go...
