Happy Birthday Irfan

Irfan is six today. How fast he had grown. 9th of February 2006. The date was picked by Anita since she had to go for Caesearian, some 20 months after she was operated for Idlan.

Anita was born on the 9th as well, hence the reason she picked the date. All went well and over the years, Irfan grew to be a cheeky little munkey! My little Munkey!

Happy Birthday Irfan. We'll have some cakes and toys later!

Enak KL at Starhill Gallery

As I mentioned in my previous entry, we made another excuse to go out for a family dinner last weekend celebrating Mum's birthday. I was given the task of picking the venue. It turned out to be a tough one. Mum wanted a Malay restaurant, preferably buffet.

I searched online as well as taken out my restaurant guidebook. A few names came to mind. We did Rebung last year. Ibunda was full. Seri Malaysia and Warisan was closed on Sunday. We did not fancy going up the KL Tower or KLCC again. Hotel restaurants? None of them offer a real Malay treat, plus we did Le Meridien the other evening.

I wonder what Imran actually picked? The boys got their order of nasi goreng first. And a yummy one at that.In the end, we went to Enak KL at Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang. It came highly recommended, winning the best Malay restaurant accolades in the last couple of years. Plus we never been there before. I booked a table for the 11 of us, and we arrived at around 8.30. There was no buffet, so we picked items of the menu to share.

The food were surprisingly good. The ambiance was exciting, the children could not stand still, while being mesmerised by the dimmed lighting of the whole of the Lower Ground floor of Starhill. The service was excellent! The staffs there made us really felt welcomed, and Mum was happy.

The order has arrived. From left clockwise, asam pedas jenahak, ayam gurung berempah, daging hitam and gulai udang.Kerabu asparagus. We had asam pedas, prawn curry, daging hitam and kerabu asparagus, among other things. They tasted nice. I must warn you however that the place was not exactly cheap ….. but I supposed you would get what you paid for, and everybody had a good time.

Some of the items however ran out. I was told that the daging bakar was a specialty. Maybe net time ...

More information on Enak KL can be found here.

Dinner for Mum

Being a good son that I am, I took Mum out yesterday evening for her Birthday dinner. Unfortunately, Julia couldn't join as her son, Imran was not well. We would have another bash during the weekend with her family around - reason for another meal!

We went to Latest Recipe at Le Meridien, KL Sentral, one of my favourite buffet outlet. We had a hefty meal. In fact my parents sampled almost everything on display except for the raw stuffs - they left that for me. And my boys as usual, went bananas at the chocolate fountain.

We stayed on for coffee, and only finally went back home well past the boys' bedtime. It was well worth it. Irfan fell asleep in the back of the van on the way home. Bless! I could not take much picture as the boys kept pinching my iPhone.

Now that he was full, he was occupied with my Galaxy SNice meal it wasHad some lovely apple crumble to round things off. Yummy custard ....

The meal was good as usual, although the Indian selection was rather limited last night. It was well compensated by the line of sashimi I gobbled. I suffered some terrible reflux last night as a result.

What was left was planning for another family meal this weekend. It had to be dinner on Sunday as Julia would be in Port Dickson for a conference this weekend. It would be at Legend's Water Chalet, where we had a really great outing the last time. I would be occupied during the day as well, as I would be doing a photowalk. It would be the Scott Kelby's Annual Photowalk. This time, I passed on to Ripi to do the planning. We would be starting off from the same spot as last year, around Central Market. It should be great fun.

Birthday Party at Julia's

Having all three of your children celebrating their birthdays in one go was definitely a great idea. Even though, technically they were almost a couple of months apart, bundling them together saved you on the headache. But them being my nieces and nephew, created a different kind of headache for me. I had to get three birthday presents in one go.

Balloon galore as the clown was let looseNot sure what Idlan was asking for ....What? An orange sword? Lame!As this being Syawal, my sister organised an open house on the same day as well. The party was held during lunch, and Kajang, on current traffic was 45 minutes away. Managed to reach there well ahead of time, and get things organised as I was the designated cameraman.

Some of them were cooked by Mum. The rest were catered.Happy Birthday to you .... the sing song had startedYaya preferred Tom and JerryThis was one cute cake. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. This was how you make it ...If you were going to ask for some swords, ask for eight of them. The ultimate fighting machine this ....And the games went on ......The clown arrived at around 1, and after that, it was cake-cutting and general mayhem. Unfortunately, there were no party food, so, my boys were restless. We ended up leaving early, and was caught in a horrific traffic jam on the way home. We left before most of our family members and visitors arrived. My Mum cooked my favourite dish for the party, and at least I got to enjoy that before we left.

Next destination, open house at Anita's cousin.

Impromptu Birthday Cake

Thanks to my sister Julia, I had a birthday cake this year. Believe it or not, I did not get one for my birthday, with the kenduri and all. The initial plan was to take my parents out for lunch. Julia and her family was on their way back from Melaka, and they joined us at Pavilion as they arrived in KL. We had our lunch at Madam Kwan’s, in a nice little table, tucked away at the back room.

She prefers children plastic plates. I don't really know why ....Then it was durian time ....BurpAll havoc broke loose when the children started playing with their iPads and iPhone. Even if they had one each, they would still like to fight. We had a good lunch, with all the singing and cake blowing. After lunch, we settled back at my parent’s house at Bukit Antarabangsa. Julia brought back plenty of durian from Melaka. Please don’t smell my breath tonight …….
