Party Time

It came a day early, but I didn't think Puan Anita was complaining. Farha, and gang had sprung a surprise for her, a birthday cake on their Aidilfitri open house. She was not expecting that, especially my less than enthusiastic response to her request to pick her up from home. I asked her to get the driver out instead.

I had to endure a 45 minute ham from my clinic to get to Farha's even though it was on the other side of Subang Jaya. Unbelievable. And my friends manage to keep their mouth shut about the cake until I turned up!

She was surprised. The cake was gorgeous, but the highlight for me was the tiramisu prepared by Azida. Gleefully I took some home for afters!

We hung around for a bit, mainly embarrassing ourselves with tales of the old times in the UK. Surprised at the collection of photos that Farha had kept, it was rather strange to look at how different but the same we were. Great stuff!

Thanks again Farha, Azi, Yatt, Itul, Syahril and Debby plus the others for making it an afternoon for Puan Anita.

And the Second Birthday Dinner

The second dinner was on the 10th itself, with my parents. We initially planned to head to Hot Pot at Damansara Damai, but the place was closed on the night. so, we had to drive all the way back while hungry and my Mum suggested Pegaga, along MRR2, near Bukit Antarabangsa.

It turned out to be quite good. Nice clean restaurant, decent service and good food. And, they offered masak lemak daging salai.

Not as good as Hot Pot, but being near to where we live, it certain,y was convenient. They also offered local and western food. My boys had some chicken chop, which was pretty good as well.

Good company. Decent food. Couldn't really complain. More information about Pegaga can be seen here.

The Third Dinner

So, tonight was the third dinner I had for my birthday. And this time it was just me and Puan Anita. She was fasting today, so we went straight to KLCC after I reached home from work and had dinner at Spice of India.

This was followed by a spot I shopping as she needed to get some thick clothes for the boys for this weekend's trip up Fraser's Hill. The worry she had - she always worry - today was her brother having a cough and slight fever. She tended to pick up from him, an her brother had only returned last weekend after being away in Dubai. Getting a cold would really spoil the weekend for her. Hopefully she wouldn't.

It looked like it would e a full week for me next week. After the Fraser's Hill trip, I planned to join my Mum in Sungai Petani and Penang. Then to return to KL in time for the first day of Ramahan. And of course to enjoy the Pasar Ramadhan ..... Give me food .....

Me at 40

Cue in the mid-life crisis as I turned 40 today. Spent the best part of the morning clinic replying to all the well-wishes on Facebook. Thanks again for all the kind and some time not-so-kind remarks. Great fun.

For some reason, Anita was convinced that I was on call today when she woke up this morning. She was close to pack up my stuff for the day. Is that a sign that I was past it? Time to get rid of me I think? After all, she's still in her 30s. Only just .....

Google wishing me Happy Birthday

For some reason, clinic this morning was also full. Managed to go through them pretty fast as there were not much problem in the ward. some procedure to finish up the afternoon as I didn't have clinic on Tuesday afternoons. At least I would have next week off ..... Looking forward to that.

In the meantime, where should I have dinner tonight. We went to Makan Kitchen at Double Tree last night but we arrived there late. And the food was not that fresh by then. So, I woke up this morning starving. need to make up for that tonight ....

Lunch at Victoria Station

After my well-documented disappointment with the Jalan Ampang branch of Victoria Station, we decided to give its other branch, the one in Medan Damansara a go. Since my Dad's birthday was early in the week, we decided to have lunch there. Both my parents and in-laws were there, and of course the boys went along.

I had the chili spare ribs, and yes, it was better than the branch in Jalan Ampang. My Dad-in-law's trout was a downer though. The fish at Cosy Corner at Ampang Park was a lot better and fresher. For some reason, Idlan enjoyed the steak today. Normally he would go for chicken or fish. he finished half a steak - off my Mum's plate.

For a Sunday afternoon, the place was very quiet. I was not sure if business was going down, as the Jalan Ampang branch was almost always full for lunch. Since we were practically the only ones there, we were looked after well, and the food arrived very quickly.

In practical terms, the quality of the food at Victoria Station had been steadily declining over the last couple of years. Even the standard at the Medan Damansara branch had dropped compared to the years gone by, even though the prices had gone up. Before long, I would be looking for my steak fix somewhere else.
