Traffic, Clinics, and a Headset That Needed a Talking-To

The traffic getting in had clearly had the same idea as everyone else — queue for queue, brake light for brake light, that particular stretch where the satnav's estimated arrival time drifts backwards the longer you sit there. There's a certain patience required for that sort of morning, the kind that isn't so much calm as it is resigned, staring at the same bumper long enough to memorise its number plate.
Still, once in, the day did what busy days occasionally do and simply got on with itself. Morning clinic ran into afternoon clinic with barely a seam between them — one of those stretches where you look up expecting mid-morning and find it's gone half past three, the hours having slipped past while your attention was elsewhere entirely. Not a bad kind of busy, as it happens. The sort that leaves you tired in a satisfied way rather than a frayed one, more a case of momentum than of being pulled in six directions at once.
By the time the day loosened its grip, there wasn't much appetite left for anything ambitious. So the evening obliged and stayed quiet — properly quiet, the sort where the loudest event is the kettle. No plans, no obligations, just the house and whatever mood it was in, which suited me fine after a day spent mostly in motion.
Part of that quiet went toward the Apple Vision, which has been due an update for a while and finally got its moment. There's something faintly comic about spending twenty minutes updating a headset designed to show you other worlds, only to spend the whole process staring at a progress bar in this one — patience being, apparently, the one thing no amount of software can accelerate. Still, it's done now, humming along with whatever improvements Cupertino decided I needed, and there's a small, disproportionate satisfaction in having one fewer notification badge to ignore.
Nothing about today asked to be remarked upon, and I mean that as a compliment. Some days are for accumulating — traffic in, clinics through, quiet out — and this was one of them, unremarkable in the way a well-fitted day tends to be, everything more or less where it should have been. The headset's updated, the sofa's been properly appreciated, and tomorrow can arrive whenever it likes.
