Jambu anyone?

A hectic day as expected. It started off with sorting Idlan out in the morning. He needs his susu and puffers. After shower I headed straight off to UMMC. Dad was stable overnight although it was still clear that he was not stable. He needed more transfusion but with his age, we have to be careful not to give it too quickly. I asked my Urology and Cardiology colleague to have a look at his relevant parts.

He finally had his transfusion late on. He looks OK but was still unstable to be moved off the ward for scans and tests. He was also too unstable for any scopes. Transfusion is what was needed and he will be having them soon.

As for Irfan, his blood count on admission was high and to be on the safe side, he is staying for another day of antibiotics. Very likely he will be discharged tomorrow. At least I will just have to worry about Dad then. Also learned that United won the League Cup last night although rumour has it that Vidic should have been sent off for a foul. I don't believe in those kind of rumours of course.

The next order of business after I finished with Dad would be to stop by at Pantai to visit Anita and Irfan. My Mum has been looking after him all day while Anita came back home to see Idlan. Irfan's pet hamster, Bob has unfortunately died! According to Idlan it was because Irfan was not around to look after her! Need to make sure that Peter the Hamster - Idlan's pet - is fully fed when I arrive home later.

For lunch today I had a double dose of jambu with asam! Nice!

Now at UMMC Casualty

It certainly has been a hectic morning. He had a fall in the toilet leaving him with a massive bruise around his left eyes. Arranged for Dad-In-law to come to Casualty while I raced to get my Mum, sending her to Pantai to keep Anita accompany for the day. I left after Idlan woke up and had his breakfast and inhalers.

Irfan was much better this morning. Dr Azam came to review and was happy with his progress. He is likely going to be allowed home tomorrow.

Dad finally arrived at Casualty at around 9. His blood pressure then dropped needing resusciatation. Thank God he responded well to initial treatment and it soon became apparent that he has had internal bleeding. The bleeding has caused his pressure to drop causing him to be dizzy.

While in the toilet this morning, his blood pressure dropped so low that he lost conciousness. He was about to do his business but the next thing he remembered was he was already lying on the floor with a sharp pain on his left eye and left side of the face.

He still managed to pick himself up and went back to sleep. When he woke up later that e realised he was not able to open his left eye. It was shut due to severe bruising and swelling. His vision was still OK however. That was when I was called.

To cut a long story short, it was again his warfarin causing his blood to go too thin. He has since lost blood through his intestine. At the moment he was having blood transfusion in Casualty as well as antidote for the warfarin. Luckily his brain scan was clear with no internal bleeding. It could have been worst.

Looking after Idlan at home

Spent the night with Idlan with Anita looking after Irfan in Pantai. It turned out that Tok Abah started having black stools again. He was feeling weak and will need sorting out. Will need to sneak into the ward to organise blood tests for him.

To add to that, my abstract has yet to be completed and I have the Revision Course to sort out the week after. Deadline is looming. No rest for the wicked but at least the tsunami was not heading this way!

The plan today is apart from sorting out Tok Abah, I will need to do some writing. Will also pop by with Idlan at Pantai as he misses his Mum. He was calling for her all night. Luckily he is now back asleep.

Irfan in Hospital

Irfan's fever came back and he has been vomiting recently. I was worried since he only just completed a course of antibiotics. With the persistent cough, pneumonia was a certain concern. Therefeore I took him to see his Paediatrician and as expected, Irfan will need some blood tests, Xray and intravenous antibiotics. The best way is to get him admitted.

I was not really concerned financially as Irfan has insurance. Everything should be covered. He tolerated the Xray, IV lines and blood taking, but the only thing got him screaming was nebulisers. My God, did he scream. I thought I can talk him into having one after a chicken pie and candies. Boy, was I wrong? Luckily he was not wheezy and the nebuliser was to get him to cough out more of the phlegm. Puan Anita was busy getting things organised as she will be staying with Irfan in the hospital. I will be moving back to Taman Setia with Idlan during the hospital stay.
Finally settled and tucked inAnother concern was their Grandfather that was not well since Monday. Things looking rather hectic with Monday being the start of a new month and a new set of Medical Officers in my Unit. I don't think I can afford to be absent Monday as I have plenty of paperwork to do. Hopefully Irfan's and his Grandfather's illness will settle soon.

Invigilating

Seemed to be having an awfully long morning. Been invigilating since 9. Day Care next. Then a couple of counselig followed by a trial meeting. That will be daunting. Luckily tomorrow will be a long weekend.

May need to spend time at the Taman Setia home though as my father-in-law has been under the weather lately. Hopefully my boys will cheer him up. Their uncle were also back for a break from Turkmenistan. It should be a full weekend.
