The Ride Home

We had an eventful night tonight. The original plan was to get Idlan registered for his national ID card tonight as we read that the registration centre was opened until 10pm. It turned out that they closed early during Ramadhan. We planned this ahead and had our berbuka at my inlaw's place before going to the centre which was located in Keramat.

Denied!

So, as we only drove the MPV into the centre, I had to turn back to pick up my car in Gombak. Rather than drove everybody back, I decided to let Anita drive the MPV to the apartment while I took the LRT back to Gombak and sort out my car.

As it was just after Isya', the LRT was very quiet and it turned out to be quite a pleasant ride. I was back to my inlaw's place within 20 minutes, and had another pleasant drive back to the apartment. It worked out fine in the end ....

The Euros

Finally the EURO 2016 has kicked off last week. The first round of the group stage was wrapping up and as usual, I was interested in how England was doing. The Dutch didn't even qualify this time around.

England drew the first game against Russia, a game which they a oils be won if they were decisive in the final third. As it was, they carried a goal lead into injury time only to be disappointed with a late equaliser.

The TV had been doing wall-to-wall football understandably, and last night I caught the highlight on the Swedish national team. As expected, it was mainly about Zlatan. No mention though about his move to United, only rumours. Fascinating player nonetheless.

England would be playing Wales tomorrow. I will be watching the game after my berbuka - which incidentally will be at the Hilton since I would be chairing a talk there. A game which England must win. Looking forward to that.

Sunset Droning

A few days had passed after my last flight. I decided to be a bit more adventurous. I took the drone out of town, enjoying a 30 minutes drive to Putrajaya.

I could not leave early since I had a meeting in town until almost 6, I had to rush across time to get to Putrajaya. Luckily the traffic was light and I had 30 minutes to spare before sunset.

The gorgeous Harriot-Watt University campusAt the opposite side of the lakeHeading back to the marina from the lakeI had a few choices when it came to the spot to take off from. For that afternoon, I decided to do it at Marina Putrajaya in the hope of catching the sunset.

I got what I wanted and managed to drone around exploring the marina, the nearby Lakeside Pullman Putrajaya as well as a smaller marina nearby which was hosting the floats for the upcoming Pesta Flora Putrajaya.

The Pullman Putrajaya located right next door to the marinaLooking down onto Marina PutrajayaYou can find me there somewhere ....And the sunset was great, despite the cloud cover at the horizon. I decided to use the 1080p resolution this time around rather than 4K since I was still getting familiarise with the drone. I concentrated more on aerial photography this time around after discovering how good the camera was. I felt confident to increase the range of the flight from then on ....

Back to Melawati

Its a tradition for us. Every year, our local Pasar Ramadhan would be the one at Taman Melawati. Over the years it had gone through plenary of changes, in terms of location and appearance. It used to be in a large car park, four rows of shops, well spaced out. Plenty of stalls and food to choose from. A real go to spot when it came to shopping for berbuka.

For the last three years, the venue had changed and with that, the charm had disappeared. Many good stalls had decided to go elsewhere. My favourite drink joint was nowhere to be seen. What was left were pretty basic while some were downright mediocre.

I only went there because I was curious. Definitely not there because I wanted the food. And don't get me started about the traffic.

The new Pasar Ramadhan spot was located along one of the back row, on a smaller car park. Three rows of shops and parking meant leaving your car by the roadside of a busy main road. It was both a nightmare manouvering in and out of the place. Avenue you were late, forget it. You might end up in your car longer than the actual shopping.

I was there on the second day of Ramadhan. Definitely not a fan but if you must look for food for Berbuka, you may not have much of a choice.

Let's Vote

I was quite surprised that I got the ballot paper for the upcoming MMA - Malaysian Medical Association - election as I renewed my membership - into Life Member - only late last year. But I was not about to complain.

On the ballot paper, there were more than 40 candidates vying for 9 posts. Some of the names were familiar. Some were introduced to me by colleagues from work. So, in the end picking the candidate was quite straight-forward. What was left was to find a Doctor to be the witness when I sealed the envelope. Hmmmm .... Who should I bug?
