That Giant Ketupat

Suria KLCC had always use the area just by the fountain entrance to erect monuments. It ranged from Xmas tree to giant lantern for Chinese New Year. This time around for Aidilfitri, it was almost the same as last year, a giant ketupat!

Not exactly original but there you have it.

At the central foyer, there had a stage and a stalls, all around an old kampung house. There was a traditional troupe playing when I visited, popular with the tourist.

As usual, we are obsessed with building tall structures and breaking records. The tall ketupat was recorded as the tallest ever built in Malaysia, with a sign proclaiming so ...

Decorations at Pavilion

When it came to festivities, Pavilion was always tops with the decorations. This Hari Raya, it was no exception. The theme was not very clear, but I saw many stars about. And of course some pelita - the traditional Malay lantern.

The decorations started from the Bukit Bintang entrace, leading straight to main lobby. There were stalls there as usual, with a small stage for shows.

I was there on a Sunday, and the place was packed! Luckily I parked at Low Yat - having been doing some shopping there before walking across as the weather was nice. I also get o try my new wode-angle zoom for the CL - a Super-Vario-Elmar.

Apart from the decorations, there were not much happening then. I did not hang around for too long as I had to do more shopping after.

Pavilion Decorations

It looks like it was raining rose petals. It wasn't just me, but many others felt the same. Chinese New Year was around the corner and as usual, Pavilion KL had always put in their shift in making sure that their decorations stayed classy. I must say that they did it again.

Since it would be the year of the dogs, there were not many statues around. There was one outside Starhill Gallery which I saw. But to make sure the Moslems don't get upset, they put up statues of the deities instead. Understandable.

The Centre stage had the usual elevations for shows and what not. The decorations started in earnest from the fountain by the Bukit Bintang entrance. There flowers aplenty leading into the mall, with plenty of Instagram opportunities.

I didn't see any events when I was there since it was actually a weekday. Might as well as it wasn't too crowded when I visited.

With the expanse, I had the chance to test out the wide angle lens on the GoPro. The photos turned out really well. The videos were nice as well. The next couple of weekends would be peak shopping before the New Year. Expect the place to be packed from now on.

CNY at NU Sentral

NU Sentral didn’t want to be left behind for this year’s Chinese New Year decorations. But this year was not a vintage. They had one huge rooster right in the middle of the foyer!

And when I said huge, I meant three-stories tall, and its tail formed a series of lantern.

I managed to catch it on the way Masjid India - NU Sentral happened to be a convenient place to park your car if you plan to take the LRT or the Monorel.

Apart from the huge rooster, there were nothing much to see really. I remembered their classy effort from a couple of years back, and that particular theme which involved village scenes complete with life-sized dolls were being copied at other venues - this year being Berjaya Times Square.

CNY Decorations at BTS

As one of the premier shopping destination in town, CNY decorations had always been a staple for Berjaya Times Square. For me personally, the place seemed out of the way to where I normally ventured.

As I had a couple of free hours, I thought I walked over there to see what was going on. It turned out that the made a good effort although not exactly original. It looked very similar to the decorations at NU Sentral back in 2015. That featured cartoon figurines - the one in Central were multiracial - and old school shops.

Maybe it was just coincidence. Good effort though, and I was sure it would attract a lot of visitors during the weekend. Luckily it was weekday and I was able to walk around without much hassle ...
