Taxi driver sues government for death of detained son

KUALA LUMPUR: A taxi driver is suing the Government and five others for alleged negligence over the death of his son while in detention at the Sungai Buloh prison last year.

Ghaur Chandram, 52, said his son, Uthayachandran was arrested by the police on March 29, 2006 for suspected drug-related offence and taken to the prison when the death had occurred on May 18, last year.

He claimed that his 23-year-old son was attacked by a group of prisoners on that day which led to his death.

The father of six is asking for RM3.66mil in damages over the death.
