Finally ....

Finally Irfan agreed for a haircut. It has been a good 4 months. His hair was getting thick and he was getting sleepless night with his scalp being itchy. Even then, it was really tough getting him to agree for a haircut. After much bribery, we brought him to a hairdresser in IKANO. Even the hairdresser was asking me twice what kind of haircut did ‘she’ need. Everybody was mistaking him for a girl …..

He sat down. Rigid, awaiting the fate of his hair, clearly upset. 10 minutes later, everything was done. No drama. On the way back, he said he did not mind going there again …. which was just as well.

Irfan being allowed home

The good news for the day was Irfan being discharged. Dad was also doing much better but was complaining of being hungry. He was fasted since admission and that will likely continue until he has his scope done. They were planning to do it later this morning in CCU itself. At least he was spared from having to be moved.

My Cardiology friend saw him this morning and did a scan of his heart. His heart was beating away fine and after he assured us that once the transfusion took effect, he should make a full recovery. His Hb level this morning was estimated at around 8.8 although we were still waiting for his other tests.

He was clearly getting bored and I must say I was not much of a company. What' was more important was for him to have some rest. We were cutting visitors to the absolute minimum while he recovers. It was very likely that he will be staying until the weekend.

As for Irfan, Mum and the driver will be picking him up and Puan Anita. My wife was understandably anxious to see her father. She has not met him since the fall as she was occupied with Irfan. At the moment Dad was hungry and bored which as far as I am concerned are good signs. I had to put up notices at the entrance of his room to stop the Medical Students from coming in to examine my Dad. A few of them turned up earlier this morning. Their final exams were just behind the corner and my Dad does have some good clinical sign.

Jambu anyone?

A hectic day as expected. It started off with sorting Idlan out in the morning. He needs his susu and puffers. After shower I headed straight off to UMMC. Dad was stable overnight although it was still clear that he was not stable. He needed more transfusion but with his age, we have to be careful not to give it too quickly. I asked my Urology and Cardiology colleague to have a look at his relevant parts.

He finally had his transfusion late on. He looks OK but was still unstable to be moved off the ward for scans and tests. He was also too unstable for any scopes. Transfusion is what was needed and he will be having them soon.

As for Irfan, his blood count on admission was high and to be on the safe side, he is staying for another day of antibiotics. Very likely he will be discharged tomorrow. At least I will just have to worry about Dad then. Also learned that United won the League Cup last night although rumour has it that Vidic should have been sent off for a foul. I don't believe in those kind of rumours of course.

The next order of business after I finished with Dad would be to stop by at Pantai to visit Anita and Irfan. My Mum has been looking after him all day while Anita came back home to see Idlan. Irfan's pet hamster, Bob has unfortunately died! According to Idlan it was because Irfan was not around to look after her! Need to make sure that Peter the Hamster - Idlan's pet - is fully fed when I arrive home later.

For lunch today I had a double dose of jambu with asam! Nice!

Irfan in Casualty Again

Irfan woke up suddenly in the middle of the night and started coughing and wheezing. Zoomed him off to Gleneagles. A nebuliser after, he was much better and we just arrived back home. The wheeze was gone and he was settling back to sleep now. This put a bit of dampener as we were all set for his birthday party tomorrow morning in Bangsar. Hopefully he will be OK. We had to see the doctor again around 9 am for another check up. To see if he is still wheezing.

Irfan's First Day at School

It was a big day for the household. It was Irfan's first day at school. We were apprehensive as he clearly said that he still preferred to go to his Pingu school rather than joining his brother. He was clearly was not keen to put on the uniform after his bath.

We went to bed very early last night. Everyone except for Puan Anita was asleep by 9.30. So, waking them up this morning was not a problem. After breakfast and shower, it was time to go. There were many new faces. New students joining Idlan's class mainly. We got Irfan settled into his new classroom. His teacher, Teacher Julie was expecting him to join, so she quickly came over to take Irfan away. He only have five classmates as his was the youngest class. Next came the assembly. Poor Irfan had to stand at the very front and you can see him slowly getting worked up. Fortunately, he did not create a scene. Back to the classroom then.

After some sing-a-long and colouring, we can see him much more settled. We then quickly sneaked out for a quick breakfast. By the time we came over to pick him up, he was running around excited. He really enjoyed his first day at school and can't stop telling his Granddad afterwards. We then took them out for lunch at Great Eastern Mall. Idlan dozed off to sleep on the way back as he was rather tired, but not Irfan. It's now just after 9pm and he was now past asleep. Looking forward for another day I suppose!
