Maybe Not This Year
So, it seems like the ribbon on the Premier League trophy this year would be blue in colour. And to be honest, they probably just about deserved it. United was hardly vintage this year, and the loss may actually gorse us to do something to galvanise the squad. We really could do with a fresh set of players, some established World class players rather than those with potential. At times, we lacked the cutting age to be the real Champion.
So, City beat the Toon by a couple of goals. In the next half an hour, United would kick off against Swansea at Old Trafford. Should we win, the Championship would go onto the final day. We then would be hoping that Mark Hughes would do us a favour by making City drop points. But we still have to win the final game of the season ourselves though.
It was Citeh's
It was an emotional evening watching how the Premiership unfolded. When Rooney scored the goal, I didn't think of anything much, as I was certain that Citeh would nick win against QPR. This was almost made certain with the stupid sending off of Barton. And then, against the odds, Rangers managed to get themselves ahead. Twice.
There were almost half an hour more to go, and I started thinking the unthinkable. About how lucky we must have been. We here not playing vintage football, and got beaten twice by Citeh, home and away. Enough mention about the loss at Old Trafford the better. We clearly needed strengthening up, and the home draw against Everton in the end proved decisive. On the balance of things, we just did not deserve to lift the title.
Don't get me wrong. I have been a United supporter since 1981, and it had been alone in the first 10 years or so. We played splendid football, but always found ourselves short at the business end of the title race. I remembered when Alex Ferguson almost got a scam if not for an FA Cup win against Nottingham Forest. We won the FA Cup in 1990, before going on to beat Barcelona en route to winning the Cup Winner's Cup a year later. Then, the glory days kicked in in the summer of 1993. And the rest as they say, is history.
We deserve to lose the season. No doubt about it. It would only make us stronger as we continue to build the team. The biggest challenge in any team is to become champion the second time. I think we would be stronger next season. We will invest in the team. And we shall enjoy a glorious summer of football and Olympics ........
