Groceries for the Apartment

The boys had started their school summer break yesterday - which would last for a month. They had been asking about staying at the apartment, and Anita finally yielded. So, for the final week of Ramadan, we would be at the apartment.

Since my mother-in-law was without a maid, we would be loaning ours to her. Therefore, Anita would have to cope at the apartment on her own while I was at work. We decided to sort the groceries out today, so when we moved in tomorrow afternoon, everything should be ready.

Still need unpacking ...A couple of weeks ago, Anita discovered a quiet branch of Mydin near Danau Kota and since then, her mother and her had been there a couple of times. I went along with her today, and she was not joking when she said that the place was quiet. I swore that there were more staffs than customers when we walked in. So, shopping was a breeze indeed, despite this being the final weekend before Eid.

So, everybody were looking forward to the move, even though it would only be for a short while ....

Business Was Good

After a long couple of weeks with work and travels to Penang, it was time to chill with my boys. It was a Saturday evening and we went to do some shopping at Bangsar Village.

Not your typical shopping as we had already got the clothes sorted out. It was for the biscuits. It was Biskut Raya Time!

That's one nice lighting ...But my boys got other ideas ...Anita had frequent this particular stall for the last five years. Expensive but the cookies there were the bomb!

It wasn't just Anita doing the picking. Idlan was also on the hunt. In fact he picked up at least three jars! Sigh!

That put a dent in my wallet...‎

Not Another One

We can all agree that 2014 in general had been a glum day year for Malaysia. The fate of MH17 this morning sealed it. It would be one of those live events where people remembered exactly where they were when they first learned of the news. I remembered exactly where I was the moment the news about 9/11 broke. I was sure the generation before me did the same with the moon landing.

This year, Malaysia had two such events. And it was only July.

I was woken up by my alarm for sahur at around 4.30 am this morning. Anita was already up, and she was upstairs. Everything was silent. Then I saw a live news conference with Prime Minister Najib doing the talking. What was going on?

Anita filled in the rest, and we sat in front of the TV from then on while finishing our meal. It was tragic, and the news was only breaking at the point and plenty of speculation was about. Also on the same evening, Israel invaded Gaza, which would have been the main bulletin otherwise. It was indeed an insane evening.

I went to bed soon after as I was post-call. I also had a busy day ahead of me.

It was only when I reached home in the late afternoon that I managed to catch up with the whole news. More news conferences. More speculations and more theories, conspiratorial or otherwise. Idlan also had a theory about what happened. A missile misfired he said ....

My thoughts went out with the victims and their families. MAS had not had a great year indeed. And so was Malaysia.

Alfatihah.

Back to Work

First day back to work after the protracted weekend and I was on call today. The last call - of four - during this Ramadan. The next one would be in the middle of next month.

Slow start, seeing my patients in the ward before setting off to Park City. Just finished off the clinic there - the last patient just called to reschedule - and an ICU referral, and it was time to dump my stuff at the apartment before heading back to Subang for an afternoon clinic and start of the call.

Looks like there's going to be some construction going on ...Anita would be dropping by with food for berbuka later. I've already stocked in for sahur, and tomorrow would be my weekly no-clinic day. Hopefully the call would be kind to my weary body - both physically and mentally. ‎

Visiting the Pusara

After an overnight rest at Sungai Petani, we stopped again at Kepala Batas on the way back to KL. And we stopped again at the mosque to visit my Uncle's grave.

It rained heavily shortly after the visit, and we hang around at the mosque while waiting for the rain to subside. Got to meet some of my old friends there who I haven't met for many years.

The funeral took place the evening beforeClose by was the grave of my grandfatherIdlan went along as well and at the grave, he kept on asking about his Great Grandfather and Mother, Grand Uncles and others. He seemed overwhelmed.

It soon rained right after we got indoorThis used to be my playground ....My Mum decided to visit her orchard - she had plenty of ripe rambutan to bring back to KL - after Kepala Batas. We decided to head straight back to KL. Had to be on call the next morning.
