This Weekend's Walk

I was on call last Friday, which usually meant that my whole weekend would be occupied. I was somewhat lucky this time around that even though there were many admissions, things settled down pretty well by this morning.

I ended up discharging half of my workload on the Sunday morning.

That meant that I could have a relatively quiet afternoon, catch up with some some sleep, or maybe walk around.

I decided to head to Low Yat Plaza. The missions was to have a look at the soon-to-be-released Galaxy S6 Edge. Great phone, but shame about the the skin which Samsung put on on top of the Android standard OS. Minimal this time but noticeable.

Fantastic screen. Much smaller than I thought - after all, I was carrying the iPhone 6 Plus in my pocket.

But it rained while I was browsing and I spend a good half an hour at Starbucks waiting for it to subside. And then, the sun came out unexpectedly, allowing me to take a few more snaps.

Not much else was going on after that. I was thinking about watching a movie but the timings were a bit off.

Back home then for some afternoon tea with the boys and Anita.

Low Yat Look

Since I had some free time last Sunday, I walked - with the camera - towards Low Yat, enjoying the gorgeous weather. The MWC at Barcelona last weekend came with plenty of announcement - the HTC M9 and the Samsung S6 Edge to name a couple. I was keen to see if there had been any discounts going on at the plaza with the impending release.

No such luck. Business as usual from the look of things. I had a good look around at some cases for the iPad but nothing took my fancy. I was thinking of upgrading my 2 year-old Nexus 7, but the recent Lollipop update gave a new life to the ageing device. Although the battery life suffered big time, the new upgrade offered plenty of new excitement, especially in the notification department. The system also felt snappier than before.

And to be honest, the 7-inch Android tablet market had not been exciting for a while now, and certainly not after the release of Nexus 6, and the announcement that Google was not planning to replace the Nexus 7.The next up would be the Nexus 9, which personally felt to big. Samsung had a couple of offerings, but not much of an upgrade to my current tablet.

Frankly speaking, nothing much to see really. Maybe the next month would be interesting with the release of a host of new devices.

Thursday Morning Stroll

After cancelling my clinics on Thursdays, practically freeing it for myself, Thursday had never been completely free. This morning, I forced myself to take some down time. I ended up having a nice breakfast at the hospital, and took a drive towards Bukit Bintang.

Checking out Low Yat, when the place was practically empty put a different spin on things. I managed to walk around without much hassle.

My main plan was to pay my credit card and mobile bills, and to check out the Surface Pro 3.

They were just been available in Malaysia, but only the wifi versions were available. There were no plans for an LTE unit to imported to this region, or whether it would ever be made by Microsoft. Should an LTE version was available, I would have no qualms but grab one. It would replace my iPad for work bo doubt. Opportunity missed by Microsoft I thought. I was sure plenty more people would be interested in the LTE version.

I spent almost a couple of hours at Low Yat before driving back to Subang. I was still full to catch lunch. Got back to Subang by 2, dis my rounds and a procedure. Then off again.

Getting a free Thursday every once in a while was definitely welcomed. Not next week though. I have a meeting in Putrajaya next Thursday afternoon. No free time....‎

It Rained!

I got a free afternoon post-call and I had to settle my bills and buy some toner for my printer. Where else to go but Bukit Bintang and of course Low Yat.

The highlight? The new Mac Pro - which I got the chance to sample first hand - and the rain had returned. And it returned with a vengeance!

Luckily I was stuck at Low Yat during the rain. More excuse to just take some time and cruise around for a bit.

The Samsung Chromebook caught my eyes, but I couldn't justify any use case scenario for the time being. I got wifi at work and Gombak House. Blazing broadband at the apartment.

So, I shall be dreaming if the Mac Pro tonight .... It would have to wait for a few more months until we move proper to Bangsar. No space at the Gombak House at the minute.

Hipster Walk

I finished my afternoon round early yesterday - I don't have afternoon clinics on Tuesdays - and left the hospital early. There were people doing some repairs at the apartment with my maid keeping an eye on things.

I decided to go do some errands and take my camera out as well.

Of all places, I ended up at Pavilion and Low Yat. And there were plenty of people there. But contrast that to weekends, there were not many hipsters and teenagers carrying their oversized DSLR round the place. It was just me....

And the weather was great. Great until ingot a phone call to return to the hospital for an emergency admission.

But I had a couple of hours to burn. Coffee and ice cream at the cafe, and just going around Low Yat checking what was new.

You could tell that there was nothing much going on when the main foyer at Low Yat was showcasing beddings. I knew this was Chinese New Year and all, but this ain't no Parkson! What wer were they thinking?

No new gadget to have a look at, just old stuff. The camera lens I wanted to buy was still not in stock. I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Bukit Bintang instead.

Still trying to figure out who's idea it was to turn Low Yat into a bedding store ....The traffic back to Subang was surprisingly reasonable with the traffic police doing their job making sure the flow was good. Took me around 30 minutes to get from Pavilion to SJMC. Hmmm.... I must do this again!
