Re-admission

Abah was doing very well. So much so that we drove him to Kuala Selangor last Sunday for lunch. And he ate a lot.

However, this morning he developed a temperature and he looked quite when he woke up. We quickly bundled him into the car and brought him to Casualty. He had fever alright. And it looked like he was carrying a urine infection.

He looked very tired when he settled into his hospital bed. He had seen sleeping since taking a light lunch. Fever was better and he was now receiving antibiotics.

Hopefully he would be back to his usual self in a couple of days.

Finally Discharged

After a full week at SJMC, my father-in-law was really looking forward to return home. Not quite home yet at the moment but was halfway there. He would be doing more physio in the coming weeks and would be staying with us at the apartment for the next week or so.

He was still breathing heavily with effort but was clearly improving slowly. Anita and the two maids were there sorting him out, plus his driver. My brother-in-law would be coming after his work daily to help out as well as joining us for dinner. That certainly liven up the place.

The preparation to head homeNice view from his hospital room, but I don't think Dad is missing this ...Now it was time to sort out his meds ...My job would be to sort out his meds. There had been a few changes since the admission and in two weeks he would have his follow-up again. Very likely he would be staying with us until then.

Good thing that we had converted the study into a bedroom. The timing was perfect ...

Under the Weather

Last week, I shuttled almost daily from work to HKL. My father-in-law was in one of the open observation ward then since he needed regular monitoring. He was there until we transferred him across to SJMC. As such, we were exposed to other patients and visitors with many kinds of ailments.

By the weekend, I already started to develop a sore throat. And it good worse since then. Put myself on antibiotics finally and now I was coughing out green phlegm and having high temperature.

A couple of nights back, I couldn't even sleep properly due to the cough. And the benadryl I took caused me to wake up in the early hours in a state of high.

Feeling better now that I had been taking the antibiotics for the last few days. No more temperature and joint pains. Anita was also starting to feel lethargic and hopefully her Dad would be discharged soon as she could do with some rest as well.

Finally felt good enough to go out for lunch while Anita sorted out some shopping.

Great Start

My father-in-law has been recovering well since the transfer to SJMC on Monday. A CT scan showed full recovery from his head injury and the next few days would be spent sorting out his blood pressure and doing some rehabilitation.

He would still be needing help standing up and getting to the toilet. We planned for him to stay over at our place for the next fortnight while he recovers further. That would help stop Anita from worrying about her father. She had been staying at the hospital every night since the transfer with her Mum staying at our apartment.

My father-in-law is doing well and hopefully he would be discharged in the next couple of days.

A Long Afternoon

I got a phone call during my clinic from Anita. My father-in-law had a fall at home and he was bleeding from the back of his head. He was still at home and my mother-in-law was panicking about what to do. Luckily, the driver was there and called the ambulance.

Anita on the other hand was stuck in a traffic jam after sending off the boys at school and it was one of those foul morning that it rained since the break of dawn and traffic was atrocious. She was desperate to get back to Gombak and only managed to get to see his father after he was transferred to the Casualty in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The ambulance came pretty quick and since the fall happened on the entrance floor, extracting my father was straight forward enough.

Abah having his transfusion while waiting for a bedTime to registerHe was brought in into the HDU. Anita and the Nurses helping him to settle in.He had a bad bang to the head and required scans and a stay at the ICU. And that was not after the wound was looked at and the bleeding controlled. He was on warfarin and needed a reversal agent to stablilise things. Despite the place being busy, HKL did a great job in sorting out my father. The immediate treatments were renderered at the Casualty floor itself without delay and all the relevant support Specialties were on hand to give their input. He was sorted out within hours. I can’t praise them more.

However it took a while before they had an opening at the observation ward. It was well after Maghrib when he was moved after the emergency treatment given. Now, we have to see how things develop in the coming few days. He would require follow-up scans and some rehabilitation. Hopefully he won't be in for too long.
