Christ Church Bazaar

Next stop was at the center of town, in front of the Christ Church. A distinctively-coloured building - maroon-ish - it was one of the oldest church in Malaysia.

But the church was not the main destination. We wanted to just sit down at the bazaar in front of the church.

The distinctive colour of the buildings

It seemed that part of the bazaar had been cordoned off due to renovation work at the buildings nearby. It wasn't as promising as it was the last time we visited Melaka.

That didn't stop the boys doing some shopping though.

Morning Walk

As planned, I left the hotel for a morning walk straight after breakfast earlier. Armed with my camera, I walked past Dataran Pahlawan towards A Famosa. Then walked further towards Stadhurst and crossed the bridge into Jonker Street.

The place was still asleep. All the shops and stalls were still closed apart from a handful of cafe doing breakfast. Quiet and ideal for me to explore the architecture.

I should've taken with me a wide angle lens instead of the 50mm equivalent. Most of the photo ops were on buildings and windows. A wider angle would've been better. I went to check on the availability of the lens last week but it was sold out.

On the way back, I climbed up the hill towards A Famosa, snapped a few pics before making my way back to the hotel. The boys were still asleep when I got back into the room. Time for Anita to go down for her breakfast.

Some Peranakan Food

Peranakan food were synonymous with Melaka. At the hotel we were staying, they had a restaurant called Seri Nyonya preparing just that. And for the first day, we had both lunch and dinner there. At my mother-in-law request no less.

We had the usual asam pedas and cencaluk, a local pickle-like condiment to be taken with rice made from shrimps. A local delicacy.

The food was fine, although being a hotel, it was on the pricey side. The ambience however was something else. The attention to detail at the outlet was commendable, from mugs to the flooring.

The front entrance

For lunch, we had a set menu of steamboat. We ordered a la carte for dinner. As usual, we overdid the ordering and was left with plenty to finishing in the end.

I was sure there were plenty of nearby restaurants who also did Peranakan food. But being located inside the hospital clearly made it more convenient. We didn't really feel like venturing out after the long afternoon and the possible rain outside.

Great Speed

Great LTE speed all over the hotel. All on the iPhone, the Nexus and Anita's iPad. All on Celcom, but the speed on Maxis was more on the HSPDA side.

The hotel did come with fast free Internet. On last test, it rates at around 5Mbit which was not too shabby. But clearly the mobile speed won hands down. But I wasn't complaining.

After much coaxing, the guys finally woken up. By that time, I had had the chance to walk to Mahkota Parade to go to the bank and back. The breakfast was also getting cold by then.

The cap junking was for Anita of courseNext would be time for lunch. Better get them to the shower. We would be hitting the town after lunch.
