A Day in Penang

Everyone got up earlier on the Saturday after having a nice rest at the hotel the night before. We were up in plenty of time for breakfast before joining my Mum and Aunt again at her place. Then came the plan to head to Penang Island to visit more relatives. My Aunt tagged along as well.

We arrived at my other Aunt's place well before lunch - there was hardly any traffic getting there. We decided to have lunch at one of the nasi kandar shop near my Aunt's apartment and it was a delight. Irfan especially felt sleepy after the curry and ended up on the sofa while we were waiting for Zohor prayers.

Irfan contemplating what to try next ...Then came the sotong kangkung ...Making acquaintance with the local wildlife ...Next stop .... Padang Kota. As per custom, we would order pasembor, laksa, sotong bakar, sotong kangkung and ais kacang; not necessarily in that order. It was gorgeous although the laksa could have been better - it didn't come with shrimp paste.

We just sat at the esplanade after the meal with the boys playing with bubbles and running around the place.

Nah! We stick to the bubbles ...That's Butterworth at the far end ...Let's start ...

Next stop was at another Aunt's place in Kepala Batas. They had recently moved there from Butterworth and this was the first time I came over to visit them at their new place. More food and by this time, the boys were already getting grumpy. When we finally dropped my Mum and Aunt, it was already past sunset. Another early for the long journey tomorrow ...

Flowers of Frasers

The nice cool mountain air and plenty of sunshine and rain certainly made Frasers Hill a heaven for flowers. Even the whole shrubs thrived here.

Around the Smokehouse, there used to be plenty of flowers in the garden. There weren't many this time around and I decided to explore the town for more.

Nice...

One Sunday to the Next

The last weekend went by like a blur. The stay in PD was a mellow one punctuated by trips down the beach, having a nice swim in what I must say were the windiest afternoons I have swam in.

It was great fun though and the beach was actually rather empty. Staying at out apartment meant that we could head down at any time and I had fun with my drones during sunsets. I ended up just chilling out in the apartment rather than venturing around town. Maybe I just needed a break.

The original plan was to take Idlan to school on the Friday but after swimming on Thursday, Idlan had a coughing fit. We decided just to rest at home that day rather than drive all the way to Seri Kembangan. We did go out for dinner at the Golf Club after the swim, but we soon found our way back to the apartment having an early night.

Come Saturday - the final day we were in PD - we decided to head back to KL before lunch rather than wait for the evening. Clearly the boys had had enough of the beach and were missing their PS4 ....

Charging Up

We will be heading down to Port Dickson later today after Irfan’s birthday lunch and would be down there until Saturday. Would be planning to have an outing by the beach as soon as we reach there weather permitting, and for that I updated and charged my Phantom 4.

This would be the first time it would be taking flight in 2107. Long overdue. Hopefully I might be able to catch some 4K sunset footage ....

My maid had already left with my in-laws to tidy up our apartment before we arrive later. I would also be driving Idlan to school tomorrow from PD as Idlan didn’t want to miss his frisbee practice in the afternoon. I would be hanging on in school in the afternoon to fetch him after, back to PD again.

I would be on call come Sunday, so best to enjoy my break as it comes ...

Allan's Water

*This entry was originally written in September 2016*

This place was closed for renovations when we were here last December and it had am certainly received an uplift. There were new facilities built and the place looked spruced up compared to the last time we were there in 2012. It was basically a reservoir on top nod the hill which stored fresh water for the town. It was big enough for water activities and located about 10 minutes up hill from the town center.

We spend about 30 minutes hanging around there, feeding the fish and enjoying the fresh mountain air.

There were kayaks and pedal board for those interested as well as bumper balls as well. But Anita didn't approve of those...

Next to the lake was a small potting farm, which sold vegetables and flowers. Spend another few minutes there, taking photos of the nice flowers on display. The strawberries were off season when we visit and in was sure that would be a future attraction.

Nice time to spend the late afternoon before heading into town for early dinner. There was also a small tuck shop there for drinks and snack.
