Denied Again

This post was written on Friday, 3rd June 2016

The crave for droning was strong. And I was denied again. This time due to heavy rain. Two days in a row. Even Anita felt sorry for me ....

I managed to get to Putrajaya, had a drink before it started raining. Thunder was everywhere and the lightning made the flight a no go.

If I thought it was bad at Putrajaya, it turned out that the rain and strong winds had caused havoc in KL There were hailstorms and trees uprooted. A few buildings were damaged as well as area of flash flood. It was not pretty.

So, the drones would have to wait that bit longer ....

LAMPU 2015

It was a spur of the moment thing. Anita learned about the event and asked if we could go, and the decision was made within a couple of hours. She called the driver up and arranged everything. Initially I planned to attend a photo exhibition in town. I got hijacked.

So, off we go with Idlan in tow.

LAMPU - Lights and Motion Putrajaya - is a yearly extravaganza of light blitz. This year would be the third edition of the event, held at the spectacular backdrop of Putrajaya. The main events took place in the evening - for three straight nights - with a brilliant light shows. That was what we went there for.

Unfortunately the heaven opened. It rained heavily all the way to Putrajaya, but luckily it stopped when we arrived. The rain only returned when the light show started, and we were already under a shade.

The light show was not bad although we only managed to stay for around half an hour due to the weather. We didn't get to venture into the other attractions - food truck and stalls - having to rush back to avoid the rush of people returning from the event.

The turnout was pretty decent considering the rain. We reached there just after 8, with the show starting at around 8.30. The light show lasted around 15 minutes and will be repeated multiple times during he course if the night. We were there for the first show.

Apart from the light show, there were some nice light effects at the gardens. We wished that we were better informed of the event. We tried hard to surf the net for more info but they were clearly lacking. We ended up just going with the flow and at the mercy of where we find our parking space. Definitely would go again but wished that we could plan the visit better.

A Day in Putrajaya

I spent the best part of the days today in Putrajaya being immersed into the new Dengue treatment guideline. Certainly there is a fight shift in the treatment algorhitm compared to the last guideline from 2009.

It creator looked neat on paper, easy to follow but my main worry was the input mainly came from the Government Doctors and I worry that they may not under stand limitation of these guideline in the private setting. The practice guideline which they talked about was more on the clinical part, and as a hospital maybe SJMC may need to modify some of the nursing pathways to accommodate. Patient placement in the ward is one of the issues, as the paying customers were more keen on the size of their rooms rather than the monitoring level which the nurses could provide.

The fluid resuscitation regime appeared more systematic, with emphasis on oral fluid intake. Criteria of admission may not apply to Subang as most of time patients were admitted on their request. I was about to ask about whether the Private hospital can be more selective on their admission but that was going to be thorny issue.

I was not able to attebd tomorrow's chapter I was afraid since I would be having clinic. The topic tomorrow appeared more ICU and inpatient orientated, which was more relevant to my practice. Clearly plenty to catch although my current practice did not differ much from the gist of the discussion. At least the need for platelet transfusion was laid out as I still think that there is too much pressure to transfuse either from lack of knowledge, fear if impending deterioration as well as pressure from patients and their relatives. I felt that we a plus have a poster at the Casualty spelling out that platelet transfusion does not cure dengue. The recent drama about papaya leaf also did not help matters.

On the whole, a fruitful day.

A Week of Meeting

It looked like the theme for this week had been meeting after meeting. Some of them at the hospital, I had one in Putrajaya yesterday, another hotel today, and it looked like it was going to be Hospital Ampang tomorrow if I finish my clinic soon enough.

If you thought that Sunday would be spared, think again. Anita got a lunch, and afternoon tea lined up with our friends and buddies, which meant that I would be the chauffeur. Well, I wouldn't mind since it would be her birthday week next week. I wouldn't want to tell how old she would be, but suffice to say, there was a reason why all our car plate numbers were 9972 ....

Time to take some time off tonight .... chill out and watch some TV because I don't think I would have much time for that this weekend .....

And next week would be another story as it would include a trip home to Penang ....

Taman Warisan Pertanian

It threatened to rain. But it was only a slight drizzle. It was enough though for us to abandon the plan to walk the promenade and settled instead with a stop at Taman Warisan Pertanian.

Back when Anita was carrying Idlan, we came here to meet up with our collegemates for a quick teh tarik session. Very nice ambience and with the cooking breeze, the place was a hidden gem.

Nine years had passed. We've been there a few times but never actually looked around. We did this afternoon.

The main eating promenade. It was raining then. The whole area would require a good few hours to fully exploreIt was early afternoon when we reached there, and most of the stalls were still closed. But even then, I couldn't help but sense that the place felt abandoned. Maintenance was pretty decent, but one of the main attraction of the bazaar was an open kitchen when one just walk by and grab their order a la a buffet.

That part of the bazaar had been closed. Just the stall building remained. Maybe the management was concentrating on other aspects of the facilities moving forward.

Plenty of empty space, which may indicate that business was rather suspectThis used to be an open stall areaI saw many families as well as a couple of busloads of school children stopping by when we were there, perhaps taking shelter while on a trip to visit Putrajaya. We didn't venture into the rest of the facility as the bazaar only formed the entrance to the whole place. There were plenty more yonder if the weather was good and you had proper gear on. A great place for a family day out I was sure.
