The Packing

The packing was done. Almost. The list was set up, and most of the items had been crossed. Visited my Mum earlier as usual. All the clothes were already tucked into the luggage, only the toiletries and my gadgets still connected to the charger.

I spent the later part of the evening reading about Kyoto in a book I bought from Kinokuniya last weekend. The topic that interested me was the fact that getting a local SIM card in Japan could be a bit of a challenge. I bought a local data SIM card when I was in the Atlanta and bought a card from a vending machine at Heathrow. No problem there. But apparently things were done differently in Japan. Surfing the forums, there were some outlet which do SIMs for foreigner but the terms were rather confusing, so were the SIM rentals.

In the end, I'll probably do the Celcom roaming thing. That would cost me RM38/day. Well, I'll settle for that. You know I won't be able to cope without internet for more than 24 hours.

More on the Kyoto trip here.

Post-call Monday

Post-take days were always more tiring than the actual on call days. Add to that the phone calls which would probably interrupt your evening about the patients in the ward. I tended to let my schedule be empty form the days after the calls.

And last night was a busy one. I managed to get the post-call round sorted out early, but still I had to cancel my clinic at ParkCity. I was too tired to make the trio across town. Anita also came to the hospital to see one of my colleagues about her fever. Test results excluded dengue, but she had to be put on antibiotics for her cough and swollen tonsils. So, we hung around for lunch before she left to pick up the boys from school.

I then took a short nap at the Doctor's mess while waiting for the afternoon clinic. Luckily, there wasn't too many patients. This was followed by a long ward round before I finally managed to leave for home in time for the United game after Maghrib. My mood didn't get better with the lethargic United display. Deservedly, we were knocked out .......

I was just been woken up by a phone call from the wards, and since then found it difficult to drift off back to sleep. Tomorrow would be my packing day for the trip to Kyoto on Wednesday night. Better get some rest ......

Painting Time

I watched Irfan doing his computer project last weekend and was fascinated by the amount of knowledge these seven year-olds actually have concerning computer. And the computer system at his school used both Macs and PCs, and since the main computer was a Mac, he was able to adapt to both system.

First, he composed the paintingSend it to the printerMake sure things were in orderThe task given was to use either Microsoft Paint, or another free software for Mac - Tug Paint I think it was called - to do a drawing, print them and submit them.

More masterpiecesLetting them dryIrfan actually did everything by himself, navigating the menus, and making sure that things got printed out …. amazing! I don't think I would be able to that at his age ….

Aqiqah at PJ

Being on call today did not stop me from attending Dina's child's aqiqah, although we arrived fashionably late, just in time for the food. Actually, I arrived earlier than Anita as the venue was actually only 10 minutes away from the hospital. Managed to get there right after my first couple of admissions.

Anita was still feeling under the weather and she had to go straight home after lunch, while I went back to the hospital for yet another admission before returning to the apartment. The apartment sure looked rather big when it was empty …..

Sunday Duty

A win is still a win, even though it could have been more convincing. We were leading the Premiership by 18 points at one point before City put 4 past Newcastle the same evening. The lead remained at 15. And de Gea had not been breached for almost 600 minutes in the Premier League despite being considered as the weak link in our defence.

The return of football also brought a wanted distraction after a break for the World Cup Qualifiers. United would next be taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup replay on Easter Monday, about 48 hours after their last game. But to be fair, Chelsea was also in action last - being beaten by Southampton - which put more pressure on the already beleaguered Rafa Banitez.

As for me, in will be on call today. Always a pain to be on call on a Sunday, but somebody had to do it I supposed. One of my friend would be holding an Aqiqah on her baby later this morning. Would be trying to see if I could make it to the kenduri. Anita and the boys would be there as well. She was still not well from the flu.
