The Matrix Has Me

Many years back, while I was a Houseman, I remembered a buzz about a movie being released. Apparently it would be a cult. It was called "The Matrix". It was more than just a cult. It spawned a generation of adults imagining themselves carrying guns, in long, flowing leather jackets shooting the hell out of everything.

The special effects in that movie was revolutionary. It was nothing like one had ever seen before. It redefined the word cool, and everybody wanted to imitate Neo and Trinity.

I picked up a copy of that movie on BlueRay yesterday, and after the trip back from KLCC, Puan Anita and I sat down to watch it. It had not lost any of its charm. The special effect still looked state of the art, the dialogue still remained cool, and the music was still hip. It was either it was a great flick, or I really needed to get out more .......

TRON Visited

So, the whole household watched TRON yesterday. Even my boys were mesmerised with the plethora of bright neon colour on offer. It was certainly a feast for the eyes. It really brought the best out of the Blue Ray HD pictures. I wished that I still had my home theatre as I had to rely on the TV screen stereo sound.

The plot for the movie was also much better than I expected. It was complex enough for the adults while my children were left drooling on the visual effects. The fight scene were very well choreographed and would not be termed as violent.

Even though the overall tone of the picture was a cold blue contrasting nicely with the orange neon glow from the antagonist characters. It was a true cinematic treat. I could imagine the movie looking great on an iMAX screen.

By the end of the day, I was sure that Idlan watched the movie three times, mainly the lightcycle part. Great stuff! Next up, Inception.

Blue Ray. Woot!

Earlier in the week, we stepped into Jusco and they were doing some sales. The DVD player - a RM200 job from 2 years back - went kaput, courtesy of my boys manhandling. Suffice to say, I was on a hunt for a new unit.

While having a look, I stumbled across a Blue-Ray player by LG going for a buck under RM400. Well, it should do the job. So far, I have bought 3 Blue-Ray discs, and Tron would be the next. Some of the special edition and bundled discs - such as the Shrek Quadrology and the Lords of the Ring Trilogy - looks really enticing. Time to start a collection I guessed.
