A New Tune

I had been contemplating going up onto medium format for quite some time. There were plenty of contenders, and the couple main ones at the moment were the Pentax 645Z and the Hasselblad X1D. They were not cheap certainly. But the one I was anticipating would be the Fuji GFX 50S. All 3 uses almost similar sensors, about 1.7 times bigger than my current full-frame gears.

But they were going to be big and heavy. And I mainly like street work. And I have fast glasses to cover 28, 35, 50 and 85mm, not to mention standard and wide-angle zooms.

In the last few months, I had been mainly doing wide-angle walks. I decided to use a 85mm 1.4 rig yesterday. The overcast weather made the decision easy. And I was able to snap both indoors and evening outdoors without much hassle.

After looking at the results, it made me think about whether it would be worth the effort, cost and hassle of upgrading and abandoning the system I built over the years to accommodate this new endeavour. Bearing in mind, I was not planning of getting any monetary return from all this.

So, as it stood at the moment I might venture into medium format in the future. The question was not if, but onto which system. Apart from the Hasselblad, I don’t think the other medium format setup had the upper hand to my current kit. When I do go medium format, I would expect the results to blow me away, similar to when I was first able to use a Leica properly and appreciate what a sharp lens really meant.

I remember the advise from one of my mentor, that when you go into the field I am in - a Haemato-Oncologist, you would need an escape. For me it had always been photography since my student years. Guess, I would need to up my game now ….

Tidying Up

Since Aidilfitri, I had been taking plenty of snaps, but didn't have time to go through them and do the post-processing, let alone archiving them. I spent last weekend getting them organised and now, uploading them to my server for storage as well as some onto my SmugMug and Flickr accounts.

That was hard work. I think it was best to organise my shooting better so that the post-processing would be more organised ...

A Long Flickr Morning Walk

It had been a long Sunday. Globally, today was famously inducted as Star Wars Day. May the Fourth be with you as the saying went.

But in the Photographer enthusiast community, this weeks marked the tenth anniversary of Flickr. It was celebrated worldwide with what photographers loved to do, a group photowalk.

KLickr joined in the festivities by conducting its own photowalk. We decided to explore Brickfields this time around.

Hot and sunny although it didn't looked like it when I was driving to start my ward round first thing this morning. I was done by half eight and drove to KLCC to park my car, later taking the LRT to Sentral to join the crowd. The starting point was the brand new shopping mall next to the terminal called Nu Sentral. Swanky!

I reached the meeting point just after 10, settling in for a quick breakfast. Soon the group swelled and it was time to start the walk. The customary group photo was around 60. Not a bad crowd at all.

Hot weather indeed and the whole group congregated for lunch just after noon. But not before I snapped around 250 frames.

I wished that it was more of a guided walk as there were plenty of scene to be taken in then. Plenty to discover as Brickfields was full of history and at the rate the development around there were going, the place would soon change.

As for now, it was certainly an enjoyable walk. And a great company to boot. Will blog more after I got the photographs in post-development.

KLicker at Feeka

As mentioned previously, right after a busy week, it was always nice to unwind. This time, the KLickr group congregated at Feeka at Jalan Mesui for a spot of coffee.

It had been a while since we met up. The last meet up must've been during the wedding of one of our members. They were now expecting a baby - that told you how long it had been.

We caught up about old times as well as plan ahead for the activities for the year. But I missed he highlight since I had to leave early. One of our members got out his balloon kit for all of them to enjoy .... minus me.

Walks of Yesteryears

I thought it would be neat to dial back the years and put the links of the previous Scott Kelby walks I participated in in the past few years. So, here goes ....

It all started for me back in 2009.

I helped organise the 2010 walks, and I was actually busy doing the reccing but did not enjoy the actual day as it was more of making sure that things went according to plan. Oh well! The links are here and here. I also had a slideshow of the snaps here.

I enjoyed the 2011 walk more, and I created a link for the walk.

Looking forward to plenty of snaps tomorrow .....

The links on the 2013 walk here.
