Anita's visit

In a meeting at the moment and it was rather interesting for a change towards the end. Can't really mention what meeting it was since it was at Faculty level and confidential. Things were hotting but since I am a junior member of the Faculty I better keep my mouth shut. They were discussing some technical issues at the moment and it was dragging on for a good half hour now .....

Puan Anita was currenty with her Dad at the moment, the first time she has been to see him since the fall. She was waiting for me to be done with the meeting before driving her home. Dad seems to be doing well today.

A day for rest

Just a quick look at Dad before checking into work. AlhamDulillah HR was doing a lot better. He had some sleep and breakfast this morning. A few doctors check on him this morning already and everyone was pretty glad with his progress. He is now off high flow oxygen and able move on his bed without much trouble.

There were still a few tests needed doing and I will also be occupied with ward duties this morning. Anita was anxious to get to the hospital to see her father. She has not been to see him since admission. She'll probably come later in the afternoon as Idlan was at school today. When I left the house this morning, Irfan was still asleep. I have a few meeting lined up already for the afternoon. Going to be a long day.

Dad will need a rest for the next couple of days. Maybe when he is more stable he will be transferee out from CCU. My Ardiology friends certainly wants to keep him here as long as possible but I do understand that when he becomes more stable, there will be other patients who needs the bed as well. As for today, rest was what he needed.

Scope was clear

Now that the scope was done, Dad can have something to eat. His scope did not show any active bleeding. But the downside to that is we still don't know where the bleeding was from. Prof Chin wanted him to have a CT in the coming few days to make sure nothing was amiss.

Dad tolerated the scope very well since he was far from stable, we had an anaesthetist on stand by to administer medications to settle him for the procedure. It went without a hitch. Prof Goh was kind enough to loan us his new baby, a brand new scope for Prof Chin to use. With the new machine he was able to clip, laser, inject, microwave, make coffee etc while the scope was in the stomach.

As for Irfan, even though the order for discharge was given firstthing in the morning, Pantai had to conact the insurance company, Prudential to process the bill. By 3, when Anita asked the payment desk, it turned out that Prudential has not done anything with it. We even called our agent to find out what's goig on, and even she was surprised. No wonder some of my patients have been irate with Prudential as not only they were inefficient, they were fussy to release claims.

Only yesterday I told off one of the claims rep from Prudential for being too difficult with a patient's claim and asked me for explanation. I asked her to get a Medical personnel to speak to me rather than having to explain things because I'm sure there will be more confusion. Unfortunately I have too much invested in Irfan's fund thus far, plus it's not often that we claim from insurance.

Irfan being allowed home

The good news for the day was Irfan being discharged. Dad was also doing much better but was complaining of being hungry. He was fasted since admission and that will likely continue until he has his scope done. They were planning to do it later this morning in CCU itself. At least he was spared from having to be moved.

My Cardiology friend saw him this morning and did a scan of his heart. His heart was beating away fine and after he assured us that once the transfusion took effect, he should make a full recovery. His Hb level this morning was estimated at around 8.8 although we were still waiting for his other tests.

He was clearly getting bored and I must say I was not much of a company. What' was more important was for him to have some rest. We were cutting visitors to the absolute minimum while he recovers. It was very likely that he will be staying until the weekend.

As for Irfan, Mum and the driver will be picking him up and Puan Anita. My wife was understandably anxious to see her father. She has not met him since the fall as she was occupied with Irfan. At the moment Dad was hungry and bored which as far as I am concerned are good signs. I had to put up notices at the entrance of his room to stop the Medical Students from coming in to examine my Dad. A few of them turned up earlier this morning. Their final exams were just behind the corner and my Dad does have some good clinical sign.

Jambu anyone?

A hectic day as expected. It started off with sorting Idlan out in the morning. He needs his susu and puffers. After shower I headed straight off to UMMC. Dad was stable overnight although it was still clear that he was not stable. He needed more transfusion but with his age, we have to be careful not to give it too quickly. I asked my Urology and Cardiology colleague to have a look at his relevant parts.

He finally had his transfusion late on. He looks OK but was still unstable to be moved off the ward for scans and tests. He was also too unstable for any scopes. Transfusion is what was needed and he will be having them soon.

As for Irfan, his blood count on admission was high and to be on the safe side, he is staying for another day of antibiotics. Very likely he will be discharged tomorrow. At least I will just have to worry about Dad then. Also learned that United won the League Cup last night although rumour has it that Vidic should have been sent off for a foul. I don't believe in those kind of rumours of course.

The next order of business after I finished with Dad would be to stop by at Pantai to visit Anita and Irfan. My Mum has been looking after him all day while Anita came back home to see Idlan. Irfan's pet hamster, Bob has unfortunately died! According to Idlan it was because Irfan was not around to look after her! Need to make sure that Peter the Hamster - Idlan's pet - is fully fed when I arrive home later.

For lunch today I had a double dose of jambu with asam! Nice!
