The Hospital Next Door

Pantai Hospital next door to my apartment had undergone a najor renovation in the past year. And the fruits of the work were there to see with the opening of the new outpatient building.

On the ground floor, there were a number of shops and cafe being opened. Enough for us to go if we needed a quick bite.

We had the chance to explore the place when Yat and Syahril was at the hospital. There was the usual Starbucks and Subway, added to that was Secret Recipe and PappaRich, enough to keep me going. There was also a small Borders bookstore as well as a small mini mart.

Shame that they were opened until late. It was closed by 8 pm, although it opened early in the morning. Well worth a mention actually since it was only a five minutes walk from my door ....

Congrats Yat and Syahril

My old housemate had been blessed with their fourth child - first daughter - yesterday, and conveniently it was at the hospital right next to the apartment. Both mother and daughter were doing handsomely well - although the same cannot be said about the Dad :)

Yat had some labour pains Sunday and came over to the labour ward, only to return after a couple of hours, but in the evening, her water broke and the contractions were coming thick and fast. A quick midnight dash to the hospital ensued.

Anita was waiting for them to call when they arrived but she fell asleep by the windows. We got the news that the epidural was already up the next morning, and after breakfast, Anita and myself joined Syahril for breakfast at the hospital.

Yat delivered just after lunch and we returned again to visit later in the evening. The baby was fast asleep, unliked Idlan and Irfan when they were born - incidentally at the same ward.

They would likely stay for another day at least, and will definitely visit them again after work today. After all it was only a 5 minutes walk next door.

Taking Shape

I had a quick stop at the apartment just now prior to Jumaat Prayers. It had been a while that since I was at the apartment during day light. And today was especially sunny. It looked like the new building at Pantai Hospital next door was taking shape nicely. Traffic going in and out had been terrible for the last couple of months. Hopefully things would improve after that ….

Full of Medications

We got to Pantai rather late, just after noon. Luckily the Paediatrician, Dr Azam - an old colleague from UMMC - was free to see us before lunch. We were soon after, and before long, the boys begged for some lunch.

In the last month, Irfan had been coughing at night, with fair amount of phlegm. We tried some ventolin inhalers, but with only marginal improvement. As for Idlan, it was the fever he had since Friday. It was still spiking this morning.

Azam made a few changes to their regular medications as well as started Idlan on some antibiotics. He also found that Idlan's tonsils were a bit swollen. He also needed some nasal spray to reduce his rhinitis. So, the next week would be a full day for Anita sorting out their medications.

Idlan should be able to go back to school, but by the afternoon, Irfan was starting a temperature. We had some antibiotics for him as stand-by. It looked like he would need them. He would also need to be off school tomorrow.

LunchIdlan were soon full of beans ....Were they feeling ill? Not quite. They were creating havoc at the hospital lobby! The video uploaded here.

Irfan being allowed home

The good news for the day was Irfan being discharged. Dad was also doing much better but was complaining of being hungry. He was fasted since admission and that will likely continue until he has his scope done. They were planning to do it later this morning in CCU itself. At least he was spared from having to be moved.

My Cardiology friend saw him this morning and did a scan of his heart. His heart was beating away fine and after he assured us that once the transfusion took effect, he should make a full recovery. His Hb level this morning was estimated at around 8.8 although we were still waiting for his other tests.

He was clearly getting bored and I must say I was not much of a company. What' was more important was for him to have some rest. We were cutting visitors to the absolute minimum while he recovers. It was very likely that he will be staying until the weekend.

As for Irfan, Mum and the driver will be picking him up and Puan Anita. My wife was understandably anxious to see her father. She has not met him since the fall as she was occupied with Irfan. At the moment Dad was hungry and bored which as far as I am concerned are good signs. I had to put up notices at the entrance of his room to stop the Medical Students from coming in to examine my Dad. A few of them turned up earlier this morning. Their final exams were just behind the corner and my Dad does have some good clinical sign.
