Here We Go Again

Lately, every time there was heavy rain, I couldn't stop wondering if the flood would be coming. Again. And with it, the massive traffic jam.

It happened again this afternoon, but it did not last long. But it was scary enough. Though ......

Dinner at Fullhouse

On one of the evening we were at Sunway, we had dinner at Fullhouse, a rather unique boutique cafe with branches all over town. The flagship was the spectacular converted bungalow at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. For the past year, we had been wondering what the place was all about and since there was a branch here, we decided to give it a go.

The menu was in the form of a magazineThe drinks came in these large trinkets

The interior was very cosy, and the seating - especially the sofa was very nice. The boys enjoyed it, by the food was not so. The menu was eclectic, in the true sense of East meets West. The spaghetti had green "chili paid" in them for extra zing. My beef tenderloin had fruit bits as part of the gravy. The children menu was a bit more conservative however. The drinks came in large trinkets. All those small unique touches.

There was some cili padi in that mushroom speghettiAnita's croque monsier, with pineapplesSome raisins in the gravy. Not my kind of gravy unfortunately.

Unfortunately, we were left disappointed with the food. The past was not bad, but my steak was not great, to put in mildly. If this restaurant was a book, the cover was much better than the actual chapters if you catch my drift. However, I was sure it was a great place to catch a drink or snacks. But for a heavy meal, maybe one should look for an alternative.

Puss in Boots

After a couple of weeks lay, we finally got it together and managed to catch "Puss in Boots". There were no excuse rally after spending almost the week at Sunway Pyramid, we hopped onto the cinema.

Getting the tickets were rather tricky at the beginning as thee were only late shows, except for Thursday. when we shoed up, the movie was marked with the letter B. What did that mean? The lady at the counter did not do a great job explaining. All she said was it was in a special theatre. 3D. No. Just a special seating. She was more interested in which seats we wanted.

It turned out that the B stood for Beaniplex, and all the seatings were actually beanbags. Nice! Irfan enjoyed it so much that he started bouncing up and down on the bag. As for Idlan, he was more worried that the place was cold and went around looking for blankets! It was no Gold Class I was afraid, so blanket for him.

The movie was actually great fun. Enough to entertain both the adults and kids - and the kid in the adult as well. The plot slowed down after the customary grand spectacle, but the pace soon picked up again. I actually rate it higher than Smurfs and Alice in Wonderland in term of plot. But the boys did not really care. The laughed at the jokes and were in awe with the animations.

There were plenty of classic one-liners, and the tie in and the twist of classical children tale was rather clever I thought.

The Beaniplex was also rather good, if only the management took the trouble to explain what it is - not really explaining it verbally, but rather have adverts or leaflets. It was cosy and not too cold. The beanbags could make you slouch rather if you were not careful, but the kids loved it.

Hot Pot Cafe

After the great time we had at the pool, it was time for an early dinner. And our host had an idea, a restaurant ran by a former artist, not far from his place. And it was a pleasant surprise.

The food was great, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the hosts were friendly. They even had toys for children and later in the evening - we were a touch too early this time around - they would be a live band playing, and the cook would be one of the player. Probably reason to come again another time.

The internal lighting was very nice, but maybe too dimmed for a family dinnerVery classy decorRather misleading. The actual cook was tall and slim actually.

The menu were pretty simple. Not that many items, but it made up in quality. But with the quality, you had to prepare to wait as the items were prepared on the spot and were all freshly cooked. Their specialty, daging salai cili api. I'm not much of a Malay food aficionado, but I was willing to make an exception that evening. The food was exquisite. My boys ordered jumbo sausages and finished them all. The chicken chop was also great.

The cook and the owner would be playing later that eveningThe stage was setLooked like the Jalan Jalan Cari Makan crew had been hereThe name of the place? Hot Pot Cafe. It is located in Damansara Damai. To get there? Just enter this GPS coordinate - 3.198283,101.593741, along Jalan PJU 10/3 - and pray that your GPS unit would take you there. Well worth a visit and we would definitely be going there again.

Apparently their sup tulang was also great. Taking the children suring the time the band were playing might not be a great idea, but do drop by in the early evening before the crowd built up.

AU2 Going Down?

It was the school holidays and almost every weekend, the boys were invited to party. Last weekend, it was at the KPC KFC outlet at EON AU2. I must confess that we rarely came over there. It was a great place for grocery shopping I was sure, but compared to a year ago, clearly the place was going down.

Chicky the chicken made his appearance and scared the living out of the birthday girl!Apparently the boardings had been up for a few months alreadyAnd there were a few of them aroundMany of the food outlets were being closed, with only the main ones opened. Even on a Sunday afternoon - at the time of the party - the parking lot was empty and there were hardly any body mingling around. Just a few families at Jusco for food and shopping for the week I guessed. Not much in terms of leisure outing. I guessed the competition with Wangsa Walk Mall just 10 minutes away proved too much.
