Moving along

Don't you just love it when you come across a day where things were falling into places and stuffs get done. Today have been one f those days for me when I went through a lot of paperwork and managed to kickstart my research projects.

Currently taking breather from work and catching up on emails and writing this short note. Need to go through a stack of notes next before calling it a day. I might take the boys out for a drive later if I reached home early enough and they were still in the mood.

A Different Start

Since starting off this blog a year ago, I often recieved emails from readers disappointed that they did not find much at all about chemotherapy and cancer. I then had to write back to explain to them that thus is a personal blog and personally I was not really keen to be reminded of work during my free time. Maybe I should've picked a different title but it was catchy and I liked it. I decided since the end of last year that maybe another outlet is needed for people looking for medical information, more with a layman's twist.

After months of planning, I was finally happy with a format. It's bit perfect. It will be hosted in Squarespace - getting a discount for a second account. It will be bilingual as currently resources for Malay medical reading material is seriously lacking. The skeleton and framework for the site was already built and I have started to populate the content. It will take many moons before it will be barely adequate but I am sure I will hey there. I decided to do away with emblems and speeches and head straight to the point. Maybe in the future I will get my medical students to help. You have to start somewhere.

Ancient stuffs

Walking towards my ward fom my office, I passed through the newly refurbished Microbiology Department. They were clearly in the process of clearing up their cupboards and left stacks of old documents and files along the passageway. I was surprises that it went way back to the opening of the Hospital. Since there were no omputers back then or even if they do, they were sensible enough to keep hard copies, there were rows of them.

Which brought me to a thought. In the age when we were trying to move towards paperless invironment, are we covered should the paper trails go missing. Imagine if the results were so important that varification was needed, can we survive just by using te computers? Will they be pemissible in court of law? Scary thought eh?

Chuckles

For some reason, this poster brought out a chuckle. I always had issues with my IT Department for not being able to provide the level of service I expected, push emails, less censorship for social networking sites since most of my patients actually contact me via twitter or Facebook nowadays for advice etc. Now they were having a roadshow. Good luck to them!

Well played Datuk Sir

Malaysia Boleh! #allengland2010 on TwitpicThere was something about watching Lee Chong Wei picking up the trophy that stroke a chord with me tonight. It’s not the dignity in which he conducted himself on court. It was not the humility he displayed in victory as well. But he was a true patriot. Fresh from lifting the trophy and doing a lap of honour, he went to celebrate with his fans by the court side. Then one of them threw a Jalur Gemilang his way but missed it while the stewards were ushering him away for a press call I was sure. What did he do? He turned back, picked up the Jalur Gemilang from the floor on one hand while still lifting the trophy on the other. He then passed the flag back on to the fans on the stand. I must confess I choked when I saw that. Another Datukship? He deserved more than that. But then again, his humility will just keep him in his place and his feet on the ground. Well done that man!
