The Transition

In life, we tended to resist change. SJMC had just gone through one with the implementation of the computerised Hospital Management and Information System - dubbed the HMIS. I was on call on the moment of implementation - midnight on 1st October 2016 - but the system remained off line until I finished my shift. The moment it became online, the mayhem started.

The management decided to close all outpatient clinic - although some did not have the choice but to remain opened. I did not bother since it was my post-call morning and I have got the photo walk lined up. I came to join the party later on that afternoon after the fun subsided.

For the HMIS, the ward would also change their designated nameFor the ultra-kiasuThere were plenty of kinks over the weekend, but it was helped by the Monday off for Awal Muharram. It is the first day of full day since the implementation today. I still had my clinic closed since I would be in Hospital Ampang examining, away from it all …..

Since I was using the same system at Park City and Ara Damansara, I understood the problems, but my worry was not on my side, but on the network itself. Would it be able to handle the stress and the workload? We could only wait and pray …..

2am Webinar

One of the requirement of running a lab would be to accumulate enough CME points every year. One of my lab was due for renewal and the inspector from the US were scheduled to come in early November. They asked me to attend one webinar prior to the visit. The only problem was, it was beamed live from the US, which was due to start at 2 pm.

That would mean a 2am start for us here in Malaysia. You can asked questions at the end of the session through your microphone or just by typing. But by halfway through the second speakers, I started to nod off. The topic was so boring.

I tried coffee. But nope. That didn't work. As soon as session was done, I submitted the attendance log and went straight to bed. I couldn't remember much about what was discussed.

Overslept the next morning, but luckily it was a Thursday. I don't have any clinic scheduled.

Mak's Birthday Dinner

We had a couple of dinners for my Mum's birthday since for the first one, my sister and her daughter couldn't make it. Nana was in Kedah at school and would be flying back to Kajang only during the weekend. That basically opened up an excuse to have another dinner during the weekend.

I let Julia book the venue and she picked one in Bangi, nearer her place. It was a new Western joint called Don's Diner. Unfortunately on the same afternoon, Nana developed cough and it was soon found out that she had a lung infection and had to be admitted into the ward.

Julia had selected a spread before we came inA big tray came to join usLet's tuck inSo, after all that she still had to miss the dinner and we all went to visit her after our meal.

The meal itself what quite good and we ordered the set meal. The portion turned out to be bigger than we thought and we had to packed up some of the left-overs home. The desserts especially were excellent. And Mum got her cake as well.

Dada's turn to help himselfTime for cakesHappy Birthday DadiThe diner mainly served western food, mixed of grills and Italians. They had pasta aplenty and the steaks came with my favourite salad - rocket. The setting was neat and the whole place was still new. It was full by the time we left and the spot appeared to be becoming a local favourite.

Idlan couldn't wait to get into the dessertsHe's in!Irfan and SuraiyaWe then congregated at KPJ Kajang to visit Nana. She was coughing away but her fever was much improved. She should be in for at least a couple of nights and had to change the plans to fly back to Kedah the next morning.

Starting Off

Was on call last night and the only way I could make it to the Kelby Photowalk today would be to start super early. And I did just that.

I was already in the ward at 6.30, got all my admissions and referral sorted out by 8 am. I drove straight to Nu Sentral and parked my car there.

I was in the Monorel, around Bukit Bintang heading to the meeting place at Chow Kit. Another 6 stops I think. Will be having breakfast straight away. I was starving!!!

Golden End

I decided to stay home today and get ready for the call tomorrow. The weather was nice and I had left the hospital earlier than usual today.

Thursday usually meant my no clinic day. I usually use the time to give talks or have meetings. Instead today, there was nothing lined up. I was already at home by 5, with a quick stop in Bangsar to have a look at the recently reopened Czip Lee.

We were done by 6. And undecided to have a session in the gym. A 3km jog on the treadmill was all I could muster before heading up for shower and Maghrib.

But the sunset had a nice shimmer to it this evening. Gorgeous light. And a gorgeous way to end the day.
