Across to Times Square

The devil is in the details. That was how the saying went. At first glance, the decorations at Bee Jay's Times Square appeared modest and plain. But if you look more closely, it was very well put together with plenty of elements to explore.

Well done!

The foyer appeared very plain with stalls built up to mimic the high street of the old town. But each space were filled up with small little items to reflect the good times of the 60s. Replicas aplenty, from an old saloon to grocery shops, certainly there were plenty to see.

I spent a good half an hour there when I visit just looking at what in display. It happened to be a weekday, hence the place wasn't as packed. There were also some food truck parked outside at the main entrance of the mall, attracting the crime say from the foyer. I had my own sweat time to explore the area.

I have also uploaded a video of the decorations on YouTube if you guys fancy a look.

CNY Decorations at BTS

As one of the premier shopping destination in town, CNY decorations had always been a staple for Berjaya Times Square. For me personally, the place seemed out of the way to where I normally ventured.

As I had a couple of free hours, I thought I walked over there to see what was going on. It turned out that the made a good effort although not exactly original. It looked very similar to the decorations at NU Sentral back in 2015. That featured cartoon figurines - the one in Central were multiracial - and old school shops.

Maybe it was just coincidence. Good effort though, and I was sure it would attract a lot of visitors during the weekend. Luckily it was weekday and I was able to walk around without much hassle ...

Times Square Monkey

We went to Low Yat this afternoon to get Anita's iPhone screen fixed. It was OK, not as expensive as we thought and it was done within half an hour. Anita was happy, until iPhone 7 was out. The phone should be OK for the next few months at least.

After a quick lunch, we walked across to Berjaya Times Square for Anita to do a bit of shopping. Me on the other hand went to visit an exhibit at the Nikon Centre across from Low Yat.

At the main foyer, they had a huge monkey - since it would be the year of the Monkey next. But it came with a couple of antennae. To be honest, it started to look like an ant with its big eyes from certain angle.

Well, after the shopping was done I stopped over at Starbucks for a quick later before heading back to Low Yat where we parked out car. The road wasn't full but the parking lots were. I guess people do like to go out to shopping malls like me...

Berjaya Times Square Again

I thought the increasing number of shops at the BTS during the CNY period was only short-lived. But I was wrong. The place was buzzing this Sunday afternoon when I went there with Anita.

Most of the shops on the lower floors were occupied and the restaurants were full. The bazaar on the third - called Central Park - floor was in full flow, where Anita did a bit of shopping. While she was there, I surveyed the upper floors and was surprised to learn what they were selling there.

Second-hand luxury items! Handbags and watches among others and they were going at some surprising rate. LV handbags for RM30K! Some Panerai watches going for around RM10K which I though was well below the market price. Worth having a look although I was sure I would get conned since I don't know much about them.

But certainly fun to look at.

Next stop was at the famous indoor amusement park. It was pretty quite. Guess folks were not into these anymore these days .... But the cinema was full though.

This huge shopping complex was certainly making a move forward. There was also some shows going on at the main entrance being televised from the looks of things. Would definitely be doing more reading about those watches ....

A Sunday Outing

It was not often that I had a Sunday free. This time it was through a combination of patients being discharged that morning as well as my last call being a good 10 days ago. I might as well enjoy it while it lasted.

So, today Anita came along for a monorail ride with me towards Bukit Bintang. Again we started off from Nu Sentral, parking our car there. A short hop to Berjaya Time Square then. We had lunch and Anita did a bit of shopping afterwards before we hopped across to Low Yat.

The entrance to the theme park at Berjaya Times SquareBut we decided for an early lunch firstAnita's power bank failed and she needed a new one. Not an easy decision as she climbed six floors of the mall looking for the one that she liked. We finally found one at the second floor from the top.

It was threatening to rain then, so we chilled out inside the mall for a little bit before making our exit. And then came the street party at one corner of Low Yat with the road leading to Federal Hotel being blocked off. More on that here.

After mingling around in the crowd, Anita wanted to have a drink. We initially wanted to go towards Jalan Mesui to have some coffee there. But the sky was getting grey again. We didn't risk it and walked towards Lot 10, then further on towards Starhill Gallery.

At the salonSome ice-cream maybeAnita was suspiciously happy to see the blob!!Starhill Tea Salon was the destination. We had scones - although I had a mocktail rather than tea this time - and some pasties. Proper English style!

All together a nice little outing. Walking back to the monorail station quickly to avoid rain. It poured by the time we got into our car at Nu Sentral. More entry on the Nippon balls here.
