ParkCity Picking Up

For the last couple of weeks, I found that the activity at ParkCity had picked up. Today, to my surprise, I actually had a direct referral from one of the local GP. And this was not to mention a few ward referral from colleagues.

Unfortunately, due to limited time, I was only able to be at ParkCity on my clinic days. Yesterday, since I have an inpatient referral, I drove there during lunchtime. Tiring, but doable, especially with a new referral which I had to see.

I noticed that a couple of new shops were already opened. No sign of the staff cafeteria as yet, or was I looking at the wrong place? The place was definitely getting busy.

Three Hospitals

It had been a really warm day today and the fact that I had to run around between Subang Jaya and ParkCity did not help. It had been a tiring one.

This was then capped up by a visit to the Armed Forces Hospital near Wangsa Maju to visit my Dad's driver.

Pak Cik Leman had been driving Anita since she was in primary school. He used to be Dad's driver during his time in the Army. This continued after both of them retired from service. But in the last few years, Pak Leman had worsening of his diabetes. As a result, his weight ballooned and he wasn't as dependable as before. Unfortunately, during the weekend, he suffered a minor stroke and had been admitted since then.

InsyaAllah he would be discharged tomorrow if results turned out ok, but I could see that he still had difficulty with his speech. Praying for a speedy recovery.

Paperless

SDMC Desa ParkCity has yet to have a proper launch. It was opened to then public on 12.12.12. They had a few deliveries on the day, but since then, they had only accepted walk-in cases. Efforts were still being made to get insurance approval for the Center, and it looks like that would only come in the next couple of months.

So, I had only seen my first patient there yesterday. The first after a couple of weeks. And then I realised that the place was completely paper-less. A shock to the system none the less. And I had a crash course on how to muse the system courtesy of one of the ER nurse. Learn I did.

The system was actually straight forward if you keep things simple. Almost all the features could be accessed from the main page, including blood results, history, Xray as well as charging and ordering your next tests. Same with ordering then items from the Pharmacy. Apparently referring patients to another Doctor could also be done online.

The system was actually rather slow when loading, which is troubling as the patient load was still minimal. Imagine implementing such system in a busy hospital?

A good start, but after using the system, now I appreciate writing on paper that bit more ....... I would need some time to get used to this.

SDMC Desa ParkCity

A bit of corporate info, Sime Darby Healthcare had a couple of outlets when I joined - the famed SDMC Subang Jaya and the day hospital Sime Darby Specialist Center at Taman Megah. Since then SDMC Ara Damansara was opened earlier this year, and on 12.12.12 SDMC Desa ParkCity had its soft launch.

I do Haematology consults at Ara Damansara as well as was involved with the blood bank service there, but I do not have any clinics running there. On the other hand, I would have a couple of clinics at Desa ParkCity every week, increasing to three as I go along. So, this afternoon, I visited the new hospital - well, more like sneaked in. The Security fella was kind enough to show me around the place after I showed my ID. The ER was still quiet but the Medical wards had been opened for the last couple of weeks. The lobby was still empty and the signage has yet to be put up.

Fountain by the entranceThe empty lobbyThe building thus far looked to be well laid out - at least the thought behind it was clearer compared to Ara Damansara. The carpark was on a separate building connected via a couple of bridges. The Emergency Room was directly connected to the operating theatre for emergency surgery. The corridor was wider, and security was via ID card to open doors. But signage as I mentioned was still missing.

On the first floor where the outpatient clinics were located, the Paediatric Clinic opened out into an open-air play area. My boys had tried the swings there before I could say anything. The cafeteria was still closed, so those patients admitted so far might be struggling to get food other than hospital meals.

Entrance to the outpatient clinicIrfan exploring the play area by the Paediatrics outpatientYup! It was all tested by the boys! LULUS!Only a couple of wards were opened thus farI will try the results system and the clinic in the coming months. I was sure that there would be problems at the beginning, and there would be some time for me to get used to things. Driving there was still a nightmare, and the traffic from Subang was heavy despite this being Sunday afternoon. Time to brace myself ..... But at least the neighbourhood looked nice and green.

It was Anita's Turn

I was woken up by my maid just before my alarm went off at 6 this morning. Anita had fallen in the toilet.

She had been having stomach cramps all night last night even though she was normal earlier that evening. She did not sleep well, but there was no nausea or any need to risk to the toilet. But the pain just got worst and she finally went to the loo in the morning, and it was profuse diarrhea.

She then felt dizzy, with a slight headache. She shouted for the maid and managed to unlock the toilet. She then found herself on the floor after that. She was covered in cold sweat when I reached her, but able to response when I was talking to her.

I showered her and we packed her things and went straight to the Casualty. She was dehydrated at the time, but was much better once we started the IV drip going. She needed admission.

She was much better once she reached the ward even though she had to go to the toilet four more times before lunch. Time for some medicine then .....

She was more worried with our boys. Idlan had also been having stomach cramps for the last few days. He vomited last Friday evening, and had been having diarrhea since. Very likely it was him picking a bug from school, and passing it on to Anita. Good thing that Irfan was doing well, otherwise it would be a major headache.

Good thing about her wing admitted into my hospital was the fact that it would be easy for me to continue with work and all that while Anita was still in. In fact, I have a full clinic this afternoon and I plan to cut down on the number of patients for tomorrow morning's clinic. I may have to send Idlan to school before that.
