The Casualty Visits

Anita woke up this morning with a very severe abdominal pain, worst than she had ever felt before. She was crying despite the usual concoction of paracetamol and brufen. Reluctantly, she agreed for me to take her to a Casualty and the nearest to out house was Gleneagles. We packed our bags and we were there 10 minutes later.

The Trauma officer did some Xray but thought it was nothing serious and suggested some analgesia and return the next day to see a Consultant if the pain got any worse. We went back and the pain just kept on coming. Anita can't sit still and she felt better if she was moving. And the griping pain was really excruciating. Finally she agreed for me to take her to UMMC.

UMMC on a Sunday afternoon can be busy but we were lucky that on that day, the place was not as packed. Parking was a bit more straight forward than I expected. After getting Anita settled in, she had her blood taken and a painkiller injection was given to her bum. Before long, she was in la-la land.

After a couple of hours, the results cane back. Her white blood count was raised and an ultrasound was ordered. It did not any stones buy she would need a more detailed scan to be sure. We decided to wait for a couple more hours to see if her pain return after the painkilling injection wore off.

The pain did return but it was more of a dull ache. And no, there was no way she would agree for an admission! In the end, we decided to have painkiller tablets and go home, promising to take plenty of fluids. She would rather be rushed to a clinic for a painkiller jan rather than stay the night in hospital.

She took an extra painkiller tablet before going to bed and slept like a baby! This morning she woke up with a headache and nausea, but only with a dull backache. I'm sure those were the effect of the painkiller he took. She would rather stay at home with her boys!

Discharge!

My Dad had his CT scan earlier today and now he was allowed discharged. I was rather tied up with the ward duty and was only able to sort out the bills and stuff right at the end. He was really bored by now and he was really glad that he can go home. Back to his usual magazines and TV. On my end, I was giventhe duty of checking his blood until his Warfarin dosing stabilise.

Irfan and Idlan were in good spirit at home. There will be a small matter of Sports Day coming up this Saturday. He did not tell me which event he will be participating. Managed to free my Saturday morning to be present.

Swinging by to visit Irfan

Dad has already been transfered to CCU and completing his transfusion. A bit more settled in a quieter room. Hopefully he will catch some sleep tonight. Breathing was also slightly easier although he still needs close monitoring. I have already asked my on call colleague to drop by tonight before leaving.

The main lobby still in festive moodAfter he was settled, I then headed across to Pantai to visit Irfan. He was already asleep by then and I did not want to wake him up. He was already back to his usual mischief today, bullying my Mum to buy him toys and junk food. His appetite was already back ad even the nurses were surprised at how much he gobbled down his gob. I was writing this while catching a cup of coffee at the Starbucks at Pantai. Needed that to keep me awake for the drive home.

Irfan in Hospital

Irfan's fever came back and he has been vomiting recently. I was worried since he only just completed a course of antibiotics. With the persistent cough, pneumonia was a certain concern. Therefeore I took him to see his Paediatrician and as expected, Irfan will need some blood tests, Xray and intravenous antibiotics. The best way is to get him admitted.

I was not really concerned financially as Irfan has insurance. Everything should be covered. He tolerated the Xray, IV lines and blood taking, but the only thing got him screaming was nebulisers. My God, did he scream. I thought I can talk him into having one after a chicken pie and candies. Boy, was I wrong? Luckily he was not wheezy and the nebuliser was to get him to cough out more of the phlegm. Puan Anita was busy getting things organised as she will be staying with Irfan in the hospital. I will be moving back to Taman Setia with Idlan during the hospital stay.
Finally settled and tucked inAnother concern was their Grandfather that was not well since Monday. Things looking rather hectic with Monday being the start of a new month and a new set of Medical Officers in my Unit. I don't think I can afford to be absent Monday as I have plenty of paperwork to do. Hopefully Irfan's and his Grandfather's illness will settle soon.
