Group Lunch

My good old friends from my UK days came over to the apartment today for lunch. Sad to say that today being Friday, my clinic finished late and I had to rush to the mosque. On of my friend was at Pantai Hospital next door for ante-natal check-up, and since the wait was long, stopped over at our place.

Word got out that she was coming, and Anita decided to cook and invited everybody else over. Great fun, but they were all but done by the time I reached home after my afternoon rounds.

It looked like it would be another week for my friend, failing which she might have to have induction for the baby. All of us were holding our collective breath!

Lorong Seratus Tahun

In the middle of discovery - or rediscovering The Mall, or now called Sunway Putra Mall - we found out that the old eatery on the top floor was preserved. It used to be one of my favourite eatery and it was themed around the A Famosa. Food was good and reasonably priced. A nice place to meet up with friends.

The place is now different and not all of the cafes were opened yet. The one we tried was surprisingly good however. It was a Penang Peranakan cafe called Lorong Seratus Tahun.

I had the asam laksa and Anita had some curry mee. I must say that the asam laksa was superb. Almost authentic Penang.

Definitely worth another try in the future should we landed at the mall again ...

Bangsar Stopover

With the nice weather and me having to stop by the bank, I couldn't help but to make a quick stop in Bangsar while having a quick lunch enjoying the sun. I was on my way from my clinic at Park City to Subang anyway.

It was a shame that I had a 1pm meeting. The fact that I was on call today also did not make me feel better. But then again, a 20 minutes stop wouldn't hurt.

Quick stop for brunch at PappaRichThis should do nicelyBack into the sunFinally, bank stuff was done. Lunch was done. Time to drive back to the hospital.

A Sunday Outing

It was not often that I had a Sunday free. This time it was through a combination of patients being discharged that morning as well as my last call being a good 10 days ago. I might as well enjoy it while it lasted.

So, today Anita came along for a monorail ride with me towards Bukit Bintang. Again we started off from Nu Sentral, parking our car there. A short hop to Berjaya Time Square then. We had lunch and Anita did a bit of shopping afterwards before we hopped across to Low Yat.

The entrance to the theme park at Berjaya Times SquareBut we decided for an early lunch firstAnita's power bank failed and she needed a new one. Not an easy decision as she climbed six floors of the mall looking for the one that she liked. We finally found one at the second floor from the top.

It was threatening to rain then, so we chilled out inside the mall for a little bit before making our exit. And then came the street party at one corner of Low Yat with the road leading to Federal Hotel being blocked off. More on that here.

After mingling around in the crowd, Anita wanted to have a drink. We initially wanted to go towards Jalan Mesui to have some coffee there. But the sky was getting grey again. We didn't risk it and walked towards Lot 10, then further on towards Starhill Gallery.

At the salonSome ice-cream maybeAnita was suspiciously happy to see the blob!!Starhill Tea Salon was the destination. We had scones - although I had a mocktail rather than tea this time - and some pasties. Proper English style!

All together a nice little outing. Walking back to the monorail station quickly to avoid rain. It poured by the time we got into our car at Nu Sentral. More entry on the Nippon balls here.

Wondering about Wondermama

I've been hearing about Wondermama for quite some time. Anita been there on a few occasions and enjoyed the food. So, after my haircut this afternoon at Avenue K, I stepped into one for a spot of late lunch.

The setting was local, with the theme being old kopitiam. There were nice touches such as big mugs and some old paintings on the walls.

Those now-famous window panesThese games really brought out old memoriesWhat caught my eye on terms of the decorations were this old games we used to play when I was a boy. It was before the days of scratch cards. You pay a few sens to draw a lot from the game which when you open would reveal a number. You then match that number to see if you won something. Something similar to a lucky draw. The thrill of winning was always there although deep down you'd know that the house would always win and make a profit. A mini gambling scheme. Not sure if it was still legal now though.

And then came the food. They were actually rather good. I ordered maggi mee complete with seafood. Idlan had some nachos with minced meet. Anita had some salad while Irfan enjoyed some pasta. As you could see, the food were fusion.

Time to orderIrfan with his three-layered drinksMy seafood maggi mee gorengI ordered plum - asam boi - and lemonade for drinks and it was ace. The iced Milo also came in big mugs, and tasted home made.

I would definitely come again although the nearest branch to my place would be in Bangsar Village. The price were reasonable too, very clean and the staffs were very attentive. At least to us...
