The Wee Printer

Anita had always wanted to print her phone snaps especially after travelling. Sending them for printing could be tricky. Even the online services available were not very easy to use. Printing using our laser printer could be tricky and she was not used to using Photoshop.

A simple solution would be to buy one of those portable photo printer. There was an offer going on, made by Fuji and we decided to try it.

Setting up and printing was straight forward, all done via wifi straight from my iPhone. Once printing was done, it took a while for the prints to become apparent - about 3 minutes.

The quality of the print was not exactly great and the cost of the papers could also be substantial. In the long run, using an online service may be a better idea but where is the fun in that.

Inserting the film cartridgePriming ...Done ...I have so far printed some of the photos from our recent Cherating trip. I would need to get more film cartridges later for more prints. Next would be to find a way to display those prints ... a new album may be.

Painting Time

I watched Irfan doing his computer project last weekend and was fascinated by the amount of knowledge these seven year-olds actually have concerning computer. And the computer system at his school used both Macs and PCs, and since the main computer was a Mac, he was able to adapt to both system.

First, he composed the paintingSend it to the printerMake sure things were in orderThe task given was to use either Microsoft Paint, or another free software for Mac - Tug Paint I think it was called - to do a drawing, print them and submit them.

Setting Up

After laying low this morning, I went over to the apartment for some lunch, while waiting for the afternoon admissions to arrive. In the meantime, I had the chance to open up the printer package and sorted out the wireless setting. It seemed to be behaving itself at the moment. I was able to print and scan wirelessly. It didn't have AirPrint installed at the minute, but I can download a software to be able to print from tablet. I decided against it though.

The major problem was I didn't buy any stock of printing paper. Basic mistake. Well, I had some spare papers lying around. That should do for the time being …….

Next, the iMac …..

Printer Ahoy

After the scouting yesterday, I returned to Low Yat, this time to buy the network printer which I eyed yesterday. I needed somebody to drive the MPV as I would need help with the 32 kg printer. Anita actually finalised the purchased as I actually short-listed a couple of units. She preferred the Canon unit as it was fully wireless. No cable needed, well, at least that was what it was claimed.

Low Yat was really packed on the Sunday afternoon, complete with a long queue at the lift, and at the front drive where we load up the MPV. Off we went straight after to the apartment to deposit the printer on the desk of my study. Hard work, but hopefully it would be worth it ......

Walkabout with my 400D

Idlan unfortunately developed temperature this morning. The initial plan was to go up the hill to Colmar Tropicale for a spot of sightseeing. We therefore spend the morning at home. I had the chance to watch the Grammies. Quite a glittering affair. Black Eyed Peas really rocked the house with 'I got a feeling'. The flop was definitely Taylor Swift. If she were to sing like that in front of Simon Cowell, she would've been booted out. Where was Kanye when you really needed him. I couldn't believe she won 'Album of the Year'!

The now legendary fake blossomI also woke up with a spot of glee. United comprehensively schooled the Arsenal at their backyard last night. An important win. We were now only a point behind Chelsea who will be traveling to Hull midweek to play their game in hand. I started Idlan on antibiotics and by late morning he was much better. But not after puking his breakfast out. After lunch, I decided to take my 400D out and head out to Bukit Bintang area to take pics. I also had to settle the credit card bill at a branch of UOB there - unfortunately the teller machine broke down, so I can't pay. I fully expect to hear from one of their telephone operator tomorrow to remind me to pay, during which I will remind them to fix their machine.

Heading towards Starbucks for some mochaThe main foyerI started off at the main entrance of Pavilion and around the fountain. The weather was very sunny and the lighting was rather tricky. The photos looked washed out and flat. I decided to head indoors. I soon got bored since I took some photograph of the interior already last week. I then made my way to Low Yat. It was pretty deserted for a weekday. The main foyer which used to be buzzing with vendors and stalls was empty. It was empty space. Something I was not used to. I walked around to look for photo printer since the current one I have was five years-old and the refills were hard to come by nowadays. The current prize for dedicated photo printers were already very cheap. Compared to the RM2500 I spend for my last printer, I can get an A4 printer for less than RM250 complete with ink-tank modification. That's important to cut maintenance down. The printers were to heavy to carry though as I park at Pavilion. Maybe next time.

By the time I came back to Pavilion, the lighting was better, and I started snapping away. I put up the slideshow here.
