Lunch at Sagano

My Dad-in-Law was entertaining a business associate from South Africa this afternoon, and asked if we could join along. The last time we met the couple was when Anita was still carrying Idlan. That was more than 8 years ago now.

Dad asked where we should have the lunch. The boys actually quite liked Sagano, or alternatively Double Tree. In the end, we decided for Sagano at Renaissance Hotel, and managed to get a booking. we set off there after my ward round and the traffic this afternoon in KL was super light. We got there in under 20 minutes and we had a lovely lunch.

Sagano has became popular since we first visited it three years ago. It was a gem, as the food was very nice and the price was reasonable. It was still a notch below PJ Hilton when it came to Japanese buffet, but getting a booking at the Hilton was becoming more difficult lately. I noticed in the last couple of visits that the restaurant was getting packed most of the time. We would always call in for a booking the day before, as there was a risk of being turned away.

So, after the lunch was done - the boys going gaga on the teriyaki - it was time for a trip to KLCC for their haircut.

Post Call Blues

Actually, for an on call, I managed to get some sleep, despite driving back to the apartment at 2 am. I was hungry when I reached the condo and scrounge around for food. Luckily, Puan Anita bought some microwaveable meal, which I duly gulped down in record time, while watching a movie on ASTRO. Couldn't really remember what movie it was, but I was pretty full by the time I headed for the mattress half an hour later.

I slept like a log until I woke up at 7 am. Shower, then the drive to the hospital for the morning rounds. But for some reason, Federal Highway was packed today. Took me about 25 minutes to drive in. Skipped breakfast and started the morning rounds.

I used to be able to cope with only 4 hours sleep. It was considered a luxury before. I guessed, I am slowly but surely showing my age. Finished the rounds, did some paperwork, and before long, it was 11 am. Realizing that I skipped breakfast, I headed out for an early lunch.

Lunch was done. Clinics in an hour and a half to go. Too early for the afternoon rounds. Better put my leg up and start blogging and catch up with the news.

Idiot Outrider!

After the long drive in this morning, I though I deserved a treat. Decided to head out for sushi after the last patient on my morning list. I was hungry anyway and the drive in this morning was horrible.

I didn't mind the queue at all. What got on my nerve was when the outriders came around with a VIP in an entourage and started telling people to push off. The policeman also got the cheeks to kick out at a kancil who could not move away due to the long jam. Such irresponsibility.

I wished that I have the number of the Policeman and tweet it off but they took a left turn out of DUKE after I left towards the NKVE toll. Such action was really uncalled for! Idiots!

Yuzu Japanese Restaurant, KLCC

The original plan was to look for dinner. Some Thai food, tom yam soup and steamed fish to be exact. We went to five stalls and two restaurants, and all of them were closed. Aidil Adha is a bigger deal in Kelantan than anywhere else in Malaysia. And as the majority of the Thai food stores were run by Kelantanese, most of them would be back home up north.

Since it was just me and Anita, we pressed on to our other destination, KLCC. After the errands were done, it was time for dinner. We have been eyeing the new Japanese restaurant on the top floor of Suria, Yuzu. It was certainly well made up, taking the place of what was previously a Sundanese food outlet, right next to Little Penang Cafe.

The ambiance was relaxingOur drinks, Apple Mohito and Shirley Temple. The setting was modern, but the ambiance was authentic. The waitresses were even in Kimonos. We ordered from the oversized menu. For started, we went for salmon sashimi platter and mango and soft shell crab rolls. For the mains, I had my usual pick, salmon don and saba (mackerel) teriyaki. Anita had some wagyu beef. As for drinks, we had a couple of mocktails, I had apple mohito and Anita had Shirley Temple.

The food was actually very good. The sashimi and mackerel were fresh. The wagyu beef was exquisite. Even the mocktails were gorgeous. The rice on my salmon don was a disappointment however. I was expecting a more starchy rice, but the one we had were rather plain. A minor complaint really in the scheme of things.

The salmon sashimi platter for starterThe mango and soft shell crab rollMy salmon donAnd also my mackerel - saba - teriyakiAnita's wagyu beef. Now you see it .....Now you don't. All done inside 5 minutes.Another thing we noticed was that the service could have been better in term of speed. The pace was, should I say pedestrian. We waited for quite some time for our drinks, and our starters took longer than expected. Be prepared to wait if you asked for the wagyu beef. And mind you, the restaurant were hardly full, and we entered before Maghrib, before the supposed peak hour.

Would we come back? Of course. I would avoid ordering don (rice) however. And I believe that the gozen set might be faster to prepare, so go for that. The restaurant is located on the top - fourth - floor of Suria, near the middle of the mall. Also, be prepared for a tight squeeze as the table arrangement was not conducive for children and prams. More information on the restaurant can be found here.

Return to Express Sushi

It has been a while since I visited Express Sushi at Great Eastern Mall, arguably the best sushi fast-food outlet in town. Miles better the more accessible Yo! Sushi at least. Since coming here a couple of years ago, the main chef - Eric has been busy with another of their outlet. There was a period last year that the quality went down a bit, but today it was almost back to when I first came.

The ramen for startersSince it was just a quick stop, we had to be quick. They now have a lunch menu which came in handy. My set - salmon teriyaki set - came with ramen, potato salad and a bowl of rice. Not bad for RM26 actually.

And the mains has arrivedBut they were soon goneThe outlet is located on the Lower Ground Floor of Great Eastern Mall, next to Delifrance.
