Last Six Months

Yes. It has been six months since I was offered to join Sime Darby, and plenty of things had happened. I also filled my tax return today, and suffice to say, I'm broke!

Things had certainly picked up in the last three months, and even my Mum complained that I hardly came around as frequently. The new apartment also came in handy, as I didn't have to travel all the way to Gombak every time I was called to the hospital.

Alhamdulillah, six months certainly flew by in double quick time, and only recently that I started to understand the philosophy of private practice. Managing expectations seemed to be as important as having good clinical acumen. But, as I said all along, I must not complaint ....

Nyonya Sayang?

Peranakan food is one of those myth that been floating around when you visit either Penang or Melaka. This is especially so among our Singaporean visitors whose eyes begin to lit with the mention of Peranakan food. It is supposed to be a fusion of old Chinese and local Malay cuisine, creating a eclectic mix of the exotic. Or so we thought.

Peranakan is an endearing term of the Baba and Nyonyas, assimilated Chinese who came and settled in Tanah Melayu during the Sultanate times. A romantic era, and they live by their adopted custom. Some of them can't even speak a word of Mandarin and could be seen in sarong and kebaya. They also often speak pristine Malay. Our original "Malaysia as the Second Home" initiative I supposed.

So one to expect something magical when it comes to their food. But unfortunately, over the years, the Peranakan cuisine had been exploited. We were dined at one such restaurant in Bandar Melaka last weekend, Nyonya Sayang. It was so bad that one of our Singaporean colleague actually stood up and proclaimed, "this is not food". Rather hatch but I must say that I agree with him. The food was poor. We should have suspected it upon seeing how deserted the restaurant was when our bus arrived.

One of these days, I should really look around for a real Peranakan meal. Maybe then, I might appreciate what the fuss is all about .....

In the meantime, avoid Nyonya Sayang at all cost .....

Not According to Plan

We were crushing and I thought the three points were in the bag. But Everton had other ideas and we panicked. We were dismantled and taken apart defensively, and that was mighty disappointing.

It was a proper football game and Everton, galvanised by Philip Neville put up a great fight. And that Felliani was useful as well. Ferdinand definitely struggled to cope with him aerially.

All is not lost though. We have to go to Citeh and beat them at their own turf. Well, that is what we had to do now ..... Bring on next Monday. I'll be watching - since the next day would be a Public Holiday of course .....

Big Kick-off

Big game tonight. United playing Everton at home. Not spoken to my true blue friend Adri as yet. A lot at stake. More for us than Everton with Man Citeh kicking off later tonight away to Wolves. A must win game this.

As usual, went out to get tandoori and naan bread for everybody. Kicking off in an hour and a bit ..... Will blog later after the match!

Finally Done!

Finally done with my talk, and I can now enjoy the rest of the stay. there would be dinner tonight, but I'm not certain if I would be spending the evening in Melaka, or just drive back home after dinner.

Now, that is a dilemma ....
