Morning Walk

The third day of Raya, and despite this not being a public holiday any longer, the city was still empty. Plenty of people were taking advantage of the long weekend and school holidays to spent time away from the office I was sure.

The tranquility was soon interrupted when we drove past Chow Kit. Bad idea to pass through there. A lot of people was around there - the majority being Indonesian. The place seemed like a Mini Jakarta this morning.

I had to settle some bills and do some shopping, so Anita and I went around Bukit Bintang this morning. We had brunch at one of the cafe - which was packed. The haze was improving and the sun was out. It started to rain however as soon as we drove home.

We did some packing afterwards before heading to the apartment to spent the evening there. Most of the stuff for the Penang trip was at the apartment and Anita felt that it would be easier to pack from there. Time to get some rest as I would be doing all the driving tomorrow morning.

Hipster Walk

I finished my afternoon round early yesterday - I don't have afternoon clinics on Tuesdays - and left the hospital early. There were people doing some repairs at the apartment with my maid keeping an eye on things.

I decided to go do some errands and take my camera out as well.

Of all places, I ended up at Pavilion and Low Yat. And there were plenty of people there. But contrast that to weekends, there were not many hipsters and teenagers carrying their oversized DSLR round the place. It was just me....

And the weather was great. Great until ingot a phone call to return to the hospital for an emergency admission.

But I had a couple of hours to burn. Coffee and ice cream at the cafe, and just going around Low Yat checking what was new.

You could tell that there was nothing much going on when the main foyer at Low Yat was showcasing beddings. I knew this was Chinese New Year and all, but this ain't no Parkson! What wer were they thinking?

No new gadget to have a look at, just old stuff. The camera lens I wanted to buy was still not in stock. I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Bukit Bintang instead.

Still trying to figure out who's idea it was to turn Low Yat into a bedding store ....The traffic back to Subang was surprisingly reasonable with the traffic police doing their job making sure the flow was good. Took me around 30 minutes to get from Pavilion to SJMC. Hmmm.... I must do this again!

The Photowalk Slides

Apparently according to Ripi, the heaven opened the moment I left. But it looked like he had fun shooting still. Plenty of subjects around Bukit Bintang after we split.

Anyhow, below were the sideshow from the walk earlier .....

Show Offs

Yes, it was a known fact that we Malaysians like to show off. We like to iild the tallest, make the biggest, but still traffic congestion was still a bind and flash floods a constant thorn. But I digress.

Yesterday afternoon, I strolled around Low Yat , and as usual, I parked at KLCC and walk my way across on the walkway towards Pavilion. A nice relaxing walk actually, and I get plenty of photo ops to go along with it. In front of Lot 10, there was a group of boys with pogo sticks - a proper metallic ones and they really launched themselves in the air. I was not sure if it was an impromptu thing, but doing it at a busy - one of the busiest in town - was never a good idea …..

Further down, there was a huge group of motorcyclist about to converge in front of Pavilion. Most of them were from Kelantan, as there was the small matter of the Malaysia Cup Finals between Kelantan and Armed Forces the same very night, followed by the Malaysia MotoGP the next day. Perfect excuse for a weekend trip down to KL.

And there were at least 100 high-power motorcycles on display ….. and the noise they made …….

A Sunday Stroll at Pavilion

Right after my stop at UM, I decided to take my X100 for a quick spin. Destination, Pavilion and its 300 foot dragon at the main foyer.

Even at 11 am, the place was already crowded and a lot of pushing and shoving was going on. Not my cup of tea. So I did just that. I sat down for a quick drink.

The dragon was a bit of an anticlimax as you were not able to get close. The thing was hanging 50 feet off the ground. Not really close enough for a good snap. The crowd was not helpful either. So, after the obligatory snaps, I went outside Pavilion entrance and I was glad I did that.

The overcast weather allowed for great close-up shots of the details on the Buddy Bear. Spent more than half an hour looking around and got plenty of photos. There were great patterns and colours to be snapped. And the area outside was a lot more open and the crowd were a lot more sensible.

Funnybthat there were plenty to be seen if you look closely enough. The artists clearly put plenty of effort into their work in designing the bear. Taking stock of them really put you back a bit. It soon became clear how lame the USA and the British designs were. But there you go.

Rather than heading out to Bukit Bintang, I decided to hold back and make my way back home. I have a birthday party to attend letter in the afternoon. One of Idlan's classmate's party. Otherwise, I would have gone on. I was on a roll. More on the Buddy Bear snaps later.
