The Flu Beckoned

It looked like it was going to be a gloomy day today. Anita now had the fever, must be off the children. She had planned for iftar with her friends later today, but that plan had to be put on hold. Dad-in-law also had the flu. Plenty of them circling around I was afraid.

Luckily, they had it this week rather than next week when Aidilfitri came along. So, it would be a school run for me this morning ….

To the Paediatrician

Idlan still had a temperature this morning although he himself was feeling much better. Anita was concerned enough that she wanted to take him to see his Paediatrician.

That would mean a drive to Pantai. Since it was already late morning, we might as well set off a bit later and try to get an early afternoon appointment. After all, it was Ramadhan. So there should not be much of a lunch break.

Mid Valley Raya Decor

I was actually expecting more from Mid Valley. I remembered their spectacular Raya decors of yesteryears. Their amazing Chinese New Year effort, as well as Christmas. I went to Mid Valley this morning, armed with my camera with high hopes.

I parked at Gardens, and made my way across via the Lower Ground Floor walkway. At the middle area, where the corridors met, were filled with stalls selling mooncakes. It was nice and colourful, and so I ventured forth to the main foyer. And what did I see?

A lame effort to turn the central gallery into some sort of an Arab Market. It was basically a collection of stalls - around a dozen of them - selling cookies and clothes. The kind of things that you can easily pick up at bazaars. And the collection the sold there was not really that exclusive either. At least not as exclusive as Bangsar Village. Right at the centre is a small island with date trees - supposedly. Err .... That was about it.

Told you that the mooncake stalls were much more interestingThere was a small stage - it being morning I wasn't expecting a show or anything - tucked on one side. I can't see much attraction there at all. They ought to put more effort I guess. I actually enjoyed the spectacles at the mooncake stalls more than the Raya decor. Thumbs down, most definitely.

It's Raya Cards Time

I must confess that I have been slacking this year. I usually get my Raya Cards sorted out by the end of the first Ramadhan weekend. This time around, it was coming up to the third, and I only just begun writing them.

The cards from Sunflower were gorgeous as usual. So, I spent the best part of the morning writing up them cards, while emailing some of my cousins for their updated addresses. Finally got the 50 or so cards written up. That warm and fuzzy feeling came back in the pit of my stomach right after.

Now, I would have to drag myself to the Post Office.

Sunflower Paper Passions

In the last five or so years, the only place we got our Raya cards from was the Sunflower Paper Passions at IKANO. They print their own cards and they were gorgeous. A few years back, we actually got some cards printed from them, but we ended up printing far too many. In the years after that, we would rather just pick some of the ready-printed ones from the store, located on the Lower Ground Floor of IKANO, on the way to IKEA LG entrance.

The designs there were unique, not only in terms of motif and design, but also the actual quality. They made cut-through cards, laser-edged of course, and some of them had wooden bits as decorations attached on to them. The selection was huge.

Anita was especially keen on the envelopes for 'duit raya'. Very colourful and would set it apart from other envelopes come the big day.

When I say lego blocks, I mean lego blocksRight after, we also ventured across to The Curve to see if the decorations there were already up. It was just being set up, with the central foyer again turned into stalls area. It was still tiled out like lego bits today, but I was sure by the weekend, everything would be up and running.
