She Was Candied Up As Well

After I to my devices updated, it was Anita's turn. She has an old iPhone 4 and an iPad Mini. We managed to sort out the iPhone last night and she had been all candied up today. Tonight, I would be the iPad.

My brother-in-law also updated his iPhone 5 last night and he found that his battery life suffered. Not sure if it was because his emails were being downloaded in the background or something which had to do with the new iOS. Even the forums were buzzing about the matter.

My iPhone had been functioning great so far, and hopefully it stayed that way. My iPad Retina also was AOK. No glitches as yet ......

Saturday Afternoon Meeting

Saturday afternoon and as usual, there would be some medical meeting or forums taking place in town. This weekend it was on an oral anticoagulation, a favourite topic of mine.

So, off I went to the swanky new hotel in town - Grand Hyatt. Since I only joined for the afternoon session, I was worried that the traffic would've been bad on a Saturday afternoon. I decided to park at KLCC instead and took the underground tunnel towards Aquaria. From there, Hyatt was only five minutes away.

It was a big place. And the lobby was unique. It was basically one huge empty space. The ballroom and a couple of restaurants were located down there, but the rest of the lobby was located on one od the upper floors. You just take a lift up there. And that was where the checking-in and the business end happens. The lobby at the ground floor was left bare and sparse. Which was a welcomes change.

The AV system was amazing from what I saw. Seating area for the conference was also very comfortable and the cocktail area just outside the ballroom was big and accommodating. Something you would expect from a high end business hotel.

The talk itself was not bad. Very well oraganised and very well-ran. But it ended quite late though. Almost 6pm. But that didn't stop me from joining the boys across town at Setapak for dinner straight after.

You've Got Mail

I have always been a stickler for empty mailboxes, both virtually and in real life. Obviously some of my colleagues didn't share the same thinking. Or just plainly that they do not suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder.

I wished that I could go through them and clear it .....

Saturday Blues

I just had a look at the lab blood taking area and the queue was scary. It looked like I won't be able to start the clinic any time soon.

So, for the past hour, I had been camping at the lounge, watching the same news on the TV. Rather hungry but too early for lunch. So. Nothing but waiting fir the results for the time being.

I have a lunch and afternoon meeting to attend to in town but was really not in the mood. Might go to the meeting aftergetting changed at home, and would be bringing my camera along. The meeting would be near KLCC, so I might go snapping pictures after that .......

I have Candy

After a couple of days with the new update - the iOS 7 - I must say that it was better than I expected. Much better actually. The new interface grew on me. And everything felt snappy with no compromise in the battery life.

The actual updating process was also straight forward. I did it during my morning clinic - guilty of using staff WiFi. The actual software download was around 800 MB in size, took me just under an hour. But that was not the main wait.

It took longer to update the ROM once the software was downloaded and the phone had to be connected to a charger since ny battery power was low. The ROM flashing lasted close to 45 minutes including the booting up.

Then I was up and running. Took me a couple of hours to get my bearings. I was especially smitten at the new calendar, the email interface and the SMS app. Everything appeared flat and intuitive.

First, download the updater software700+ MB later, then you press the install now buttonThen came the varificationThen came the long wait of the actual installation. This is the scary part when the ROM was being flashed. The shortcuts - by swiping you finger upwards from the bottom - was also a welcomed change. Yes, it was Android-esque, but that's no crime. Steve Jobs might take that as an insult, but it looked like Sir Jonny was all cricket with the idea.

The camera app was also a welcomed change but nowadays, I used my HTC One for picture taking most of the time. Maybe when I upgrade to the 5S later, I might be using that a bit more.

Even my iPad was also updatedSo, the long and short of it, the iOS 7 was more than just eye-candy. It looked like Apple did the changes from the ground up. To appreciate it more, you should try the update on a bigger device. It looked gorgeous on my retina third generation iPad.

Good luck updating .....
