Crash at Genting

It happened that the next few entries were from my trip to Genting last week. It had nothing to do with the catastrophic accident yesterday afternoon. We actually passed that stretch of the Genting road, and it was true that vehicles tended to ignore the speed warning around there. It was a one way stretch, three lanes wide, allowing the speed demons amongst us to open the throttle. Not exactly a good idea when you have a bus-load of people with you.

The irony was, the bus went off the cliff not far from a designated run-off area - a small mount with soft track and sand which allow vehicles with brake problems to veer off safely. We were talking about 20 meters away here. So, brake failure might not be the problem here, but I do not want to speculate.

I have therefore decided to delay those entries for a week or so until the the stories about the crash went below the radar a bit. Alfatihah and condolences to those who perish ......

Snow World at Genting

RM 48 for a pair of parent and child. It cost me just under a hundred bucks for the four of us to spend 40 minutes in a hall-sized refrigerator. But it was worth it. The boys had great fun, and the 40 minutes just breezed by.

The entrance fee included rent for boots, jacket and gloves. The number of people coming in were regulated, and entrance starts at the half hour, lasting until 10 past. Unfortunately, cameras and phones were not allowed in, and you'd be subjected to some overpriced service for the photographs. A couple of prints set us back a hundred bucks - same as the entrance fee.

By the entrance into the Snow WorldThe hall was decent sized, with three layers. The main floor is flat, allowing you to run around pulling sledge. There was also a couple of igloos, and you could feel the cold when you were inside. It was reminiscent to the walks I had to the lecture halls during my years at university. It was freezing.

Up a flight of stairs, there was another landing, plus a slide - a fast one - on a rubber tub. It was too fast for Idlan although he was initially keen. He chickened out at the top. I had to take the ride for him. Whooosh!

What it looked like on the insideLastly, selecting the photosThere was another area up top through another flight of stairs, and this one may be suitable for some sort of function. Hmmm! A birthday party maybe.

There was no snow flakes, although there were some fine ice on the flooring. Not enough for a snowball fight through, not making a snowman.

It was more fun than I expected actually, and although the entrance fee may appear expensive at the beginning, of was worth it. My boys certainly had fun. Irfan's cheeks were bright red when he came out.

Subdued Afternoon

A rather boring day this far, starting with the long debriefing this morning, then the drive across to ParkCity. No patients in clinic today, so I ended up watching TV at the Doctor's Lounge there - you get free sandwiches there - before doing some planning for the coming weeks and answering emails.

I have a lecture to prepare in a couple of weeks time. Better get some material lined up for that. Next came the drive to Bangsar to stop at the bank, quick stop at the grocers for some food the weekend - will be on call this Saturday.

I was back to Subang for my afternoon clinic. A few patients waiting for their results to come back, before doing my afternoon rounds. Should then round things up pretty quickly before going home.

For some reason, it had a subdued afternoon. I have half an hour or so to kill before the results were ready. Maybe I just head back to the mess and catch up on some gossip. Yup, that what I'd do ......

Audit Week

The hospital has been abuzz in the last few days and would continue to do so tmfor the rest of the week. It was under an audit exercise by an international body and these lot were very thorough.

They were interested in policies and processes rather than strictly only patient care. These inspector were very clear at what they were looking for and every morning, we had a debriefing about their activities from the day before. And OMG! Were there a lot of talking points.

Not getting into the specifics, they even look into the evacuation procedures, the use of the lifts and they were really found out about things that we would never had thought off. Great listening .....

Bangsar Crying

I planned to stop at Bangsar Village and the shops surrounding it during lunch, but it just rained all afternoon. I thought I could get away by waiting for the rain to pass. Unfortunately it kept on pouring down even until I left for clinic from the apartment.

Waiting for the rain to passIt looked like my maid had her work cut out for the weekend as the heavy rain flooded the patio. Luckily there was no report of flooding or tree falling. That happened the last time it rained this heavy.
