Titanic!

Within the Marina Bay Sands Complex, there were a casino, a huge shopping mall, theaters, cinemas, an MRT station, as well as a museum. The museum caught my eyes as it was exhibiting artificers recovered from the Titanic. I just couldn't resist it.

As my boys were settled after the trip into town for shopping, I had a couple of hours to sneak out. I forked out the SGD24 for the ticket. And it was money well spent.

The exhibition showcased the big liner from the inception, right through the building, the famous tragedy as well as the aftermath. It introduced those who perished in the sinking, as well as the glory days of Trans-Atlantic traveling. Truly fascinating. And through to the Singaporean efficiency, it was very well presented and I have to admit, the artifacts from the bottom of the sea were the bonus. The exhibition would still be interesting without them.

The venue was also rather understated. It did not looks as big from the outside, but it was actually very roomy. I spent about an hour going around. At the entrance, I was given a boarding pass of a real passenger on the liner, and at the end, I got to learn their fate. My card was on a third-class passenger looking for a job in The States. He perished unfortunately.

At the same time, there was another exhibit on a different floor about time-pieces presented by Cartier. Not interested!

Stuck in the Rain

Had been stuck at a Mamak stall across the hospital for the past hour. It had been raining heavily since I got here, and there was no sign of it relenting. To make matter worse, therein meant there would be no Astro. No football. Sigh!

A Slow Day?

A slow day meant waiting for hours at the lounge waiting for patients. And that was exactly what happened today. I had some work to do but the worry was, I would get a call and had to drop what I was doing.

Since admission was rather slow during the day, I was anticipating a busy evening. I decided to have lunch, but there were nothing much there that I really fancied. So what to do? Watching the TV catching up on updates on what happened to Whitney Houston. The news about her death began circulating this morning, and by breakfast, it was already all over CNN and the social media .....

RIP Miss Houston.

Let's have cake!

After the trip to Singapore, the celebration for Irfan's sixth was a more sedate affair. We had a family dinner at Alexis at Bangsar Shopping Center the other evening and last night, we got him the presents, toys, as well as cake.
Red Velvet of course. His favourite. And it must only be from Bangsar Shopping Center of course. Sorry that I couldn't throw a party for you this time Irfan. This year, it would be Idlan's turn. But don't worry, we would have a cake for you to cut then as well …..

The Terendak Trip

Red carpet. Great singing from the College Choir. Wifi at the Balai Pelajar. Students allowed handphones. Students proficient in English. Those were few of the surprises I had today when I visited my former college.

I was honored to be invited to officiate a program there and spent slightly more than an hour at the rostrum, giving motivational talks and taking questions from the floor. It went very well. I had the chance to impart what knowhow I had to help them prepare for their exams and future.

Entering the campI also got to meet my former teachers and visited my old dormitory. Some of the building had been renovated since I've last been to Terendak in 2009 - I was there for a career talk. The main one being Block F being built up to three floors - my batch were the first to use the old Block F back in 1985, and it was a double-story building.

The main cafeteria were also extended to accommodate the growing number of students. The playing fields also looked better maintained, compared to when I was there as a student.

My old dormitory. I stayed there for a couple of years - 1988-89The new block F. It used to be only a couple of floors. The old smelly lake was also gone. The cafetaria had been expanded.I had a nice chat with the Principal as well. I was glad that he put plenty of emphasis on co-curricular activities rather than just all studies. The choir were definitely going strong. I remember how frustrated I was as a student when being told to just study, and the Principal then not giving a hoot about anything else. Something which I touched during my talk.

All in all, it had been a fruitful day. I was also approached to visit other MRSM as well. That would be at the mercy of my tight schedule though. Should I be invited again, I would definitely return in a heartbeat.
