Return to Alexis

Alexis at The Gardens, Mid Valley used to be a popular place for us to have lunch. Unfortunately, since a change of menu and the predictable drop in quality, we only went there often. After about 7 months, we were there again for lunch on the Chinese New Year Eve.

The place was empty, as you would expect when we sat at the sofa seats by the entrance. We then realised that they had extended the restaurant. It now occupied the whole wing, more or less twice the size it was before. The food remained the same although I was disappointed with my rocket salad. The main was all together a different story.

The rocket salad looked better than it tasted. It wasn't as fresh as I would have wished, and they put too much pepper in it.Next came the really nice, oven-cooked pizzaThe wagyu was definitely the highlight. Heavenly! The wagyu beef steak was exquisite. It did not come cheap however and I ended up sharing with Anita. The boys had one whole pizza each and try finished them. And Irfan enjoyed his chamomile tea.

A dash of honey in his chamomile of course ....Taken from the floor above, the restaurant had expanded to occupy the whole end of the wing. The wagyu was definitely very nice indeed and the side mashed potato and sauce was also hard to beat. A definite recommendation.

Tickets for the Smurfs

Bloated from yesterday, I missed breakfast. We spent the morning in front of the television and cleaning the room. Most of our friends and relatives were still in their kampung, so we decided just to have lunch outside while having a look at how deserted KL had been.

We were quite surprised that when we approached Mid Valley, all the carpark indicated red, meaning full. We were lucky that the parking tickets were still issued as I desperately needed to get to Gardens today. The reason, tickets for tomorrow's show of the Smurf! We settled for a parking bay on level B4, right at the bottom.

There were still plenty of tickets available for the afternoon show tomorrow. After the tickets were sorted out, there was a small matter of lunch. As usual, the boys wanted pizza, and we landed at Alexis.

Settling down for lunchMy cod. Looked dry, but was actually rather nice. The salad and pizzaThe place was full, but we managed to get the sofa seats still. A pleasant lunch as the boys were treated to a nice pizza - we had to order two since they finished both. I had some cod for a change, and it was not that bad. My rocket salad was a bit dry today, the leafs were rather too bitter and hard.

Irfan's chamomile teaEmpty-looking Mid Valley GardensWe sat down for tea - Irfan had his dose of chamomile, hence he was pretty chilled after that. Headed over at Isetan, where Anita bought a dress, before heading back home in an almost empty Federal Highway.

Looking forward for the Smurfs tomorrow ….

Quick stop at Alexis

It has been a long day. Not about the work, but the errand I had to run after coming home from work. First thing, I had to drive Anita to Bangsar to pick up the cake for tomorrow. That done, picked Idlan up from Quran School, and off we went to Great Eastern Mall for some more shopping at Toys'r'Us there, mainly for the tidbits in the goodie bags to be handed tomorrow at Idlan's class party.

By the time we got that sorted out, it was already time for dinner. As usual, it would be pizza for my boys and their favourite pizza joint there was at Alexis on the Ground Floor. Why you may ask? The pizza there was prepared in a wood fire oven. Well, allegedly. They were thin-crusted and nice.. The portion were also reasonable. Not too big, and not too filling either. And between the two of them, they would finish the pizza easily.

I had my usual salad and pasta for dinner there. The rocket and pine nut salad there was highly recommended, although the pasta could be hit and miss. Tonight, my carbonara was good, but Anita seafood pasta - I've forgotten what it was - was not so great. Another favourite of ours were the seafood pasta in parcel. Usually nicely cookers and delicious.

If you were out for a drink, or dinner, around Great Eastern Mall I'd definitely recommend giving Alexis a try. Yes, the price was a bit on the high side. Certainly more expensive than say, Delicious, but with good company, it could be great night out. The musical line-ups during weekends were not too shabby either. Usually jazz-infused and classy. Personally, I have never attended one. Maybe, with the kids on tow, those time where we can visit a jazz bar and chill, may have gone into a hiatus.

Back to Bangsar Village after Anita left her handphone earlier

After all the hassle of traveling to Klang and back for my teaching, Anita called to say that when she went to shop earlier in the day, she left her handphone at the store. Luckily it was hidden in the changing room and the keeper was able to find it and kept it for her. We went over later in the afternoon to pick it up. Since we were out, we decided to have dinner outside, and headed for Alexis at Bangsar Shopping Center.

The branch at BSC is smaller compared to the ones at The Garden and Great Eastern Mall. I ordered the rocket salad and to my surprise, the portion was bigger than expected. Unfortunately, they put a bit too many splashes of balsam. I also ordered the burger, little that I realise that it comes with blue cottage cheese. A touch too strong for me. I should've ordered with just regular cheese. After the exploits I must say I am rather tired and in need of a good night sleep.

Spent the day looking through my flickr feed

I can't believe my eyes when at 10am, when my push email kicks in, there were 20 plus messages. Mind you, it is Sunday. A lot of people were giving comments on my Urbanscapes picture page on flickr and they are being pushed straight through. Fun stuff! Currently my stats were looking really good.

After doing some chores, I took the family out to Gardens for lunch. I didn't realise that it was the KL Marathon going on this morning. A few of my friends, Sargunan and Rafidah to name a few actually participated. My wife asked me why didn't I? ..... Note to self, to kick-start my mid-life crisis, do the marathon next year ....

The trip to Gardens was pleasant enough. We had lunch at Alexis. The boys enjoyed the Pizza as usual. They then headed for the Transformers stalls over at Robinson and start picking them up .... Bad news!

Spent the rest of the afternoon going through some research papers, then off to have dinner at the in-laws. My brother -in-law, Razak is off to Turkmenistan tomorrow for a couple of weeks. We may have to stay with the in-laws during that time to keep them company. Idlan also needed some practice with the piano as he has a concert this coming Friday.
