More Treasures
Monday, January 6, 2014 at 1:49PM Another stop at China Treasures for lunch. The boys wanted the buttered prawns again, whomever enjoyed some din sum.
The menu had been modified for the Chinese New Year. As a result, few of the din sum which we liked were not available. The items on the din sum menu - only 14 - were given a special twist.
For example, Idlan's egg tarts were topped with a layer of bird's nest. Luckily it didn't alter the taste too much and Idlan was convinced that it was some sort of jelly. No damage done.
We opted against din sum as we planned to do just that when the whole family, including my in-laws around. Maybe we'd do it some time next week.
A sign that we were here too often was when they gave us some water chestnut for dessert for us to try on the house.... Was that a hint of sort?
Some Peranakan Food
Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:23PM Peranakan food were synonymous with Melaka. At the hotel we were staying, they had a restaurant called Seri Nyonya preparing just that. And for the first day, we had both lunch and dinner there. At my mother-in-law request no less.
We had the usual asam pedas and cencaluk, a local pickle-like condiment to be taken with rice made from shrimps. A local delicacy.
The food was fine, although being a hotel, it was on the pricey side. The ambience however was something else. The attention to detail at the outlet was commendable, from mugs to the flooring.
For lunch, we had a set menu of steamboat. We ordered a la carte for dinner. As usual, we overdid the ordering and was left with plenty to finishing in the end.
I was sure there were plenty of nearby restaurants who also did Peranakan food. But being located inside the hospital clearly made it more convenient. We didn't really feel like venturing out after the long afternoon and the possible rain outside.
More on this Melaka trip here.

Travels Housewarming
Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 9:52PM We spent the afternoon at a friend's place. They had just moved in a couple of weeks back and the children - Idlan's best friend - would also be moving school. So, it was a reunion for the children as well.
The house was built up on a plot of land in Damansara and the concept was West African. And the design was excellent with water features and swimming pool in the central area. But the main thing was the quality of the building material. No compromise here, and I was sure it would last for decades to come.
The food was also nice. It was a Middle Eastern catering. A bit of lamb. Great company as we chatted until late afternoon. My Mum and sister came along as well as they were staying with me at the apartment this weekend. And they were impressed with the house.
Getting the children to leave was another matter entirely.

Diary Kenduri at Colleague's
Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 3:01PM
It was great to see plenty of my colleagues turning up to attend a wedding hosted by another colleague who is on a long leave due to an assault.
She appeared to be in great spirits welcoming us all, who took an unceremonious route as a short cut from the hospital, through people's backyards.
I also bumped into an old housemate from Cornfield, meeting his year and a half-year-old son for the first time. Not to mention a familiar face behind the cameras on official duty for the occasion.
And food was great as well, with satay and some nice ais kacang on the side. We left before the crowd - and clouds - descended....
