CNY at NU Sentral

NU Sentral didn’t want to be left behind for this year’s Chinese New Year decorations. But this year was not a vintage. They had one huge rooster right in the middle of the foyer!

And when I said huge, I meant three-stories tall, and its tail formed a series of lantern.

I managed to catch it on the way Masjid India - NU Sentral happened to be a convenient place to park your car if you plan to take the LRT or the Monorel.

Apart from the huge rooster, there were nothing much to see really. I remembered their classy effort from a couple of years back, and that particular theme which involved village scenes complete with life-sized dolls were being copied at other venues - this year being Berjaya Times Square.

CNY Decorations at BTS

As one of the premier shopping destination in town, CNY decorations had always been a staple for Berjaya Times Square. For me personally, the place seemed out of the way to where I normally ventured.

As I had a couple of free hours, I thought I walked over there to see what was going on. It turned out that the made a good effort although not exactly original. It looked very similar to the decorations at NU Sentral back in 2015. That featured cartoon figurines - the one in Central were multiracial - and old school shops.

Maybe it was just coincidence. Good effort though, and I was sure it would attract a lot of visitors during the weekend. Luckily it was weekday and I was able to walk around without much hassle ...

More Cock

I had a good Sunday starting from the breakfast at PULP. By 10.30 we were already at KL Convention Centre where a home improvement exhibition was going on. Anita got a great deal on a new fridge and she got further discount for the final day of the exhibition. It would be delivered to us before the end of the week.

I then went to the Mac shop to sort out my dongle issue with the new MacBook. And by the time I was done, it was still before noon. Time to take a walk. So, off I went from Suria onto the link bridge to Pavilion. And there, I saw that the decorations for CNY was complete! All the cocks were out! The roosters were flying around indeed!

After that was done, it was time for lunch at back I walked to Suria to join Anita. Disappointingly we were not able to get a frisbee for Idlan to practice - he wanted to try “ultimate frisbee” in school. When we finally reached home, it wasn’t even 3 pm yet. Anita then took to clear the store as more renovations were planned for tomorrow. A team was coming to sort out the wall panelling and cabinets for us .... More knocking.

The boys would be in school tomorrow, and I was still on holiday, I would drive Idlan in. He would enjoy that I would be sure ...

Big Cock Coming

With the Year of the Rooster coming, most of the shopping malls were filled with giant cocks! Well, that didn't come out right I think ....

The builders were really raking them in as it was only a couple of weeks back that we celebrated Xmas, and by the end of the month, it would Chinese New Year. As with tradition, the malls were being decked up during this transition period.

The main foyer at Pavilion was being transformed at the moment with a huge flying rooster being hung right in the middle! It was et to be opened but the decorations by the main entrance was already up.

I had a couple of hours walking around Bukit Bintang this afternoon showing Anita around. I also took the chance to take some photos during the blue hours .....

Christmassy Pavilion

As usually the case, Pavilion always came out with the best decorations, be it Xmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or Deepavali. It looked like their effort this year was not too shabby although the constructions at the main entrance made some of the features looked rather awkward.

The new building right opposite was encroaching into their famous fountain making access from the Bukit Bintang entrance not the smoothest. Add to that the poor traffic flow, heading in and out of the mall was not a joy at all.

There were Xmas trees and crystals aplenty, again with Swarovski being one of their main sponsors. It was both stunning and crowded and being a Sunday, the place was completely packed. On the day I visited, I was forced to park at KLCC, walking across via the linked walkway to Pavilion.

The area around the fountain also had a small train taking children for a ride around a tall Xmas tree erected there for the last few weeks. The main lobby on the other hand had a stage - for Santa of course - and a ride for children.

An enjoyable day out although I wouldn’t recommend going there on a Sunday afternoon. The place was just too crowded, plus the small matter of traffic ....
