The Decors are Out

Xmas was gone, and it was now time to look forward to Chinese New Year. It would be a busy time of the year for me as I would be covering my colleagues, but it also meant that the decorations would be out at the shopping malls. It may not be as extravagant as the last few years due to the economic situation, but the opening gambit at Pavilion was quite decent.

I have also seen photos from Nu Sentral and 1 Utama as well, but yet to find time to go out there. I also had the time to have a look at Suria KLCC, and as usual, they tended to be a bit conservative and predictable there.

It would be the year of the Goat. Last year, the Wooden Horses appeared in hordes at Pavilion, turning into a spectacular spectacle. For this year, there was a giant golden goat in the central foyer and lanterns all around. The entrance was nice however as the lanterns formed into an arch welcoming the punters through the Bukit Bintang entrance.

The angle from the famous fountain was nice, in fact many stopped to look and take photographs. Shame that there were so many constructions going around the area, clogging the place with traffic. I wished that the walkways would be exclusively for pedestrian, and the cars would be diverted away. That would open up the area into a large boulevard, connected to Starhill, all the way to Lot 10 and Bukit Bintang.

I went there before the rush of shoppers walked in - on an afternoon when I had no clinic. I had a chance to look around, but wished that I had more time to explore. Next would be Nu Sentral for me I think, but finding the time would be a challenge. Maybe this coming weekend.

Xmas at Pavilion

Believe it or not, Malaysia has 4 of the top 15 biggest shopping mall in the World. And they were all around KL. Pavilion is not one of them, but it is the one I frequent most. Not sure it is a fact Malaysian should be proud about though ….

Anyhow, I plan to blog about Xmas decorations here, so bear with me.

The decorations for Pavilion is up. But again it was a bit of a let down compared to the number they pulled a few years back - the one with the fake snow by the main entrance. That was just enthralling. Maybe the economic downturn had hit them and they decided to scale down.

The obligatory Santa was there, sat under a huge Xmas tree. The main attractions was however was his helper - the elves mainly. Cute animatronic, a ferris wheel, and that was about it.

Can we trust this?

They have to start getting more original, not necessarily grand. So, I would be keen to see if Sunway Pyramid and 1Utama can top this one out …..

What's with all the Wau

What's with all the Wau? : The decorations were up at all the main malls in town. Compared to previous years, I didn't have much time to explore them. Work schedule got in the way. In fact, since Ramadan, I didn't have much time to take my cameras for spins.

Armed with my iPhone, I had a look around when we were at Mid Valley last weekend. The theme was kites or 'wau', and there were plenty of those on show.

Vote for this one?The whole foyer was full of them

At one of the areas, there was a competition for the most beautiful kites. And they were gorgeous ... and expensive. Wau also being the symbol of MAS did bring home some poignant reminder of the two recent event plaguing the national carrier.

We looked around for quite a bit, and the usual stalls were about. Anita did some shopping there while Idlan and I ventured around to other shops. Irfan refused to come. He stayed at home with his grandmother.

Across to Fahrenheit

I moved on after doing an initial sweep at taking photos at Pavilion foyer. I crossed the road from the fountain at the Bukit Bintang entrance which naturally took me to Fahrenheit. I thought I might as well have a quick peek.

Nothing fancy, but some cute decor. Animal theme and not just the horses. Neat. And less crowded than Pavilion.
