IKEA

One thing I hate about IKEA was the long checkout queue. I ended up either just browsing, or go there on a morning in off. Going during weekends was a definite no no.

Idlan had been pestering me to get him some furnitures for his room. And he specifically mentioned IKEA. Reluctantly I had to go there. Since they were still in their holidays, I though going on a week might would be a stroll in the park.

Wrong.

It was packed last evening at the store, and I ended up just browsing. It also seemed that they were doing a bit of renovation. Part of the showroom were closed and the flow had to be diverted. And I felt that the number of items on show was lesser than usual. Maybe they were in the midst of changing their catalogue. Anyway, we ended up having the meatballs at the cafe after some looking around.

We had a few ideas but Idlan's room at the apartment was rather small. With the built-in cabinet and his bed and TV, fitting in a big table would be a tight squeeze. We had to get the measurement just right then.

And finally .... meatballsBack to the drawing board. But the meatballs were heavenly though.... That alone was worth the trip. ‎

Quite a Day

Anita and I decided to pack up early and send the boys back to Gimbak before going out for the day. The mission, some furniture for the bedroom. We were still to buy a proper bed for the apartment bedroom.

So, we went to shop.

We managed to tick all the boxes except for a small side desk for my study. Delivery will be later in the week. Anita would have to take care of that part of the operation. I must say that I was quite happy with the bargain we got. All in the name of Merdeka apparently. Everything was on sale. Whether the savings were real or not, that would be anybody's guess.

Next was a quick hop to Wangsa Walk Mall for a movie. More on that later. ‎

Walk at Sungai Wang

Anita got her wish yesterday. I took the afternoon off to drive her to Sungai Wang. She wanted to buy some clothes there, as well as having a walk at Metrojaya there.

The place was surprisingly quiet even though the drive into the area was terrible. Combination of heavy traffic and roadwork was not kind.

Anita managed to get her stuff, while I walked around at Low Yat having a quick look around. Items of interest? The Sony RX100 mk 3 and the Samsung Note Pro. The Note had a very high resolution and the combination of portability, a slick keyboard cover as well as LTE as an option did strike my fancy. But my main issue was it running Android. For some reason, I wouldn't trust it for word processor as yet - yes, I use my iPad for word processing nowadays, with my trusty Logitech folio keyboard cover. And my iPad ran at LTE speed - most of the time.

Suffice to say, I didn't buy anything. I didn't plan to shop any way and I was not in the mood for clothes.

Maybe I should was until the Surface 3 Pro arrived before giving portable computing another look. It would be from Microsoft after all. But rumour had it that the version in Malaysia would be all wifi only. A shame.

Business Was Good

After a long couple of weeks with work and travels to Penang, it was time to chill with my boys. It was a Saturday evening and we went to do some shopping at Bangsar Village.

Not your typical shopping as we had already got the clothes sorted out. It was for the biscuits. It was Biskut Raya Time!

That's one nice lighting ...But my boys got other ideas ...Anita had frequent this particular stall for the last five years. Expensive but the cookies there were the bomb!

It wasn't just Anita doing the picking. Idlan was also on the hunt. In fact he picked up at least three jars! Sigh!

That put a dent in my wallet...‎

Shopping Before Ramadan

It was always a good idea to go for the Aidil Fitri shopping even before Ramadan begun. You tended to have the best choice - if not the best bargain - minus the hustle and bustle. You can take your time and have a drink or two while doing that which you can't in Ramadan. The crowd tended to be thinner too.

So, the weekend before Ramadan, I took a walk around Masjid India and Jalan Bunus, a must for the city dweller. All the Aidil Fitri wares were available there, if you could be bothered with the crowd and the traffic.

However, nowadays, the whole place had been turned into Mini Jakarta, as the majority of the vendors there at the stalls were foreigner. The locals could be seen trading inside Wisma Yakin and Semua House. The rest of the bazaars had been taken over. Not cool.

I was at Masjid India right after my walk from Central Market. It was just past noon when I arrived there, and the place was already teaming with the city dwellers. Everybody loved a bargain.

Since I have still got my wares from last year, I decided against doing any shopping. Those clothes old clothes were still good. I wonder if Puan Anita would be keen to come? ‎
