No Walk Today

The weather had been awful all day. And as I finished my clinic to get home to prepare for the photo walk, Anita called me to say that irfan had been crying all morning with a tooth ache. We needed to get him to a dentist.

Getting an emergency dental appointment on a Saturday afternoon at such short notice was never easy, let alone to ER somebody who could handle children. But we were in luck. Anita managed to get an appointment at 3pm at Great Eastern Mall.

And the dentist was a great one. Although Irfan was having his usual tantrum at the beginning, the dentist spent time with him and won him over. He tolerated his X-rays and had his fillings done, with minimal fuss. It was awesome. And Anita was pleased.

By the time it was over, it was already almost 5pm. It was still raining heavily outside. Even of I made it to the meeting point for the walk, with the wearer being this dull and wet, plus the fact that I did not know any of the group member, I decided against it. Spent the time with my boys instead. And we had tea at Alexis. Irfan hardly had anything to eat all day because of the ache, and finished his plate of pasta in record time.

Irfan was no longer in pain after the visit. We would definitely go back to see the same dentist if the boys had problems from now on.

The Follow-up

The drama was almost over. Almost. Irfan still complain of pain but in actual fact, he was not. He loved the attention really. Today, he had his follow-up with the Surgeon and things were much better.

Now, he was allowed to have a bath. I was on call today, so, I was not able to see how he coped. Apparently, he managed to soak himself in the bath without much problem. He was wearing trousers by the afternoon although he was still walking gingerly.

So, I would expect more drama when I get home after my morning rounds tomorrow ....

Settling for the Evening

It certainly had been a long day. When we finally about to settle down for bed, Idlan had a vomit. He had been complaining of stomach ache all afternoon. His classmates at school had been having sniffles and cold, and I think he had caught the virus off them.

I wouldn't be surprised if he start having a temperature from tomorrow morning. Anita had also been sneezing all day. The most bubbly person in the house was probably Irfan. He had been puttering about all evening.

The Morning After

Alhamdulillah, Irfan had a comfortable nights although he woke up a couple of times, not in pain, just making sure that he was in the right position. He was worried that he would turn to his side while asleep, and cause pain on the cut. No creaming, although he woke up extra early in the morning.

As for me and Anita, both of us were able to get some rest. Anita had a bit of a sniffle, more due to the worry that she had. She was glad that everything went OK. I cancelled my clinic today, an only left for work at around 10 in the morning. Irfan was properly awake by then.

After my rounds were done, I was surprised that Irfan was able to walk around at the hall, only with his top of course. No pain, except when he was passing urine. It stung a bit, but he would live .....

Appetite? Not half. He ate plenty already, and wanted more. No vomiting. We just let him play around during the day to tire him out before sleeping tonight. It looked like all of us would be sleeping at the lounge again. I have cancelled my afternoon clinic, an should be able to reach home early after the Friday prayers.

I would be on call on Saturday, when he would be at the hospital for his follow-up.

Was Quite a Struggle

It was quite a struggle to get Irfan to agree to have an IV line prior to his circumcision this morning. We were lucky that the anaesthetist was patient and we finally got him sedated via gas. He almost had a panic attack prior to sedation, despite being really calm all evening. He was on fact looking forward for the surgery when he woke up this morning.

We arrived at the Day Care Surgery at about 7.30 in the morning. Had him all set up. The wait was probably what got him panicked. And he was screaming when he was wheeled in.

I thought part of the problem was with me being present all the way into the operation room. Took is a while to get him ca enough for sedation. The rest of the procedure went on without a hitch. He was out 20 minutes later, fast asleep.

He woke up a while later and asked for Anita. He then dozed off after a while, and this time it was past midday before he awoke. Enough time for me to finish off my ward round. I have cancelled my clinics for today and tomorrow, so that I would have to rush around.

We finally brought him home at around 2 after he had some soup at the hospital cafeteria. He was again asleep during the drive home. The pain then started to come back by the time he was settled at home. A bit of painkiller then.

He was happy watching his cartoon when I wrote this entry. My parents just came to visit him earlier. He seemed to be in good spirit. Anyhow, I was prepared for a long night tonight .....
