Lunch at Katie's Stove

My Dad wanted to have a steak but unfortunately when we got to the door of Victoria Station this afternoon, the place did not have electricity and was not able to take in customers. We ended looking elsewhere when Anita came to the idea of going to another restaurant just a block away - and with electricity.

She planned to have her school reunion later in the week there and we decided to go and visit.

The place was an old converted colonial house which was recently renovated. Rather bare and basic to be honest but it served its purpose. The menu was also pretty basic. There was a set of menu for the day - which both my parents went for - which basically was rice, fish and vegetables with drinks. I had nasi goreng kampung and Anita had laksa johor.

In the end, the meal was alright. The price was quite reasonable as well and the venue I must saw was not the most strategic.

Definitely worth another go, as Anita said the laksa johor was rather good. Fast service and maybe suitable for those quick lunch getaways.

Today's Menu

With her Mum staying over at our apartment while recovering from her angiogram, Anita had been busy planning her meals. For Sunday, her Dad and brother would be coming over to join us for lunch and Anita spent the morning planning what to cook.

By the time I was done with my rounds - I was on call that day as well - they had already eaten. It was crab curry and there were still plenty left for me. Oh the joy of preparation …. I could only admire the coordination.

Masjid India

After we said our goodbyes with the bigger group, I broke off around Masjid India on my way to the LRT near Masjid Jamek. Some of my photographer friends decided to have dim sum lunch at a nearby restaurant but since I had to return back to the hospital, I had to give it a miss.

Very colourful place but very warm at the same time since the sun was already high up. The fact that the place didn't have much win blowing also didn't help.

There were shops there mainly selling snacks, clothes and bootleg items. In fact, Masjid India was famous for that.

Time to head home ....In the end, there weren't much to see as I was rushing. Took the LRT and that was the end of my photowalk for the day.

That Lunch

With the new highway called LATAR, the journey from my parents’ place in Gombak to Kuala Selangor had been cut from 2 hours before to half that. Yesterday - as I was free, I decided to take them for lunch there. Luckily one of the driver was free and I had the chance to just chill out on the journey.

I though the crab looked smaller ....Thats the one ...Airy ....Time to orderWe left rather late as I had some things to do at the hospital that morning. We finally arrived at the restaurant at around 1.30. The crowd was still building up at the time. But the cook there was really efficient, and despite the crowd, we got our food quite fast as we were already hungry when we arrived.

Getting readyFresh fish coming in from the seaNeeded some spicing up ....The food were finally here ...We ordered a couple kilograms of crabs, some prawns and fish as well as vegetables. And true to our word, we finished them all. The crab was fresh but the highlight must have been the garoupa. It was exceptional!

And the aftermathIt was too warm to walk around. Anita shelved the idea of walking around to buy salted fish. It only took me 10 minutes before going to sleep at the back of the car …..
