The Haze Was Back

We only had a couple of weeks of let off. I woke up this morning to the smell of haze when I stepped into the parking lot. I didn't think much of it until I heard on Twitter that the haze was back.

Sure enough itbjust got worst by the afternoon. Visibility was still OK, but I couldn't see central KL when obese driving. Looked like it would get worse tomorrow.

Since my boys just finished their exam and would be on their summer holidays from next week, I decided that they should be off tomorrow if the haze worsens. They didn't complain.

Gloomy Day

I didn't blog yesterday. It had been a rather traumatic and gloomy day on a personal front for me.

Right after sahur, we received a call that one of our close family passed away suddenly shortly earlier. He had some chest pain after midnight but unfortunately passed away after reaching the hospital. He was quite well prior.

Anita went to the funeral later that morning as I was at work. I left for work quite late and it took me 90 minutes to reach work. The traffic was really bad. But that wasn't the end of it.

In between my clinic patients, I went to the lounge to catch up on the latest gossip. That was when I learned about one of my colleague being assaulted the evening before, and was still in the surgery that morning.

I do not want to go to any specifics. She was doing better this morning but the assault was a major one, which may affect her career. This got me thinking about how vulnerable I was whizzing in and out of the hospital in ungodly hours to see my patients. I could have easily been stopped on the road, and I could easily be in trouble. If something were to happen to me, what would be the repurcussions?

The mood in the lounge had been gloomy and would possibily continue to do so for the rest of the week. Imagine the trauma ny colleague had been through. But from what I knee of her, she would be strong enough to handle all that. All my prayers for her while she recovers.

Security

The story about a Tan Sri shooting down a parang-weilding robber at a medical clinic in town last night got me thinking how vulnerable the Casualty were in case robbers came into the lobby and asked for money from the till. Will the security staffs be able to this kind of situation? How about the patients who were waiting to be treated? And their relatives? Will the security staffs be able to protect the medical staffs and patients should somebody turned up with a shotgun.

Subang Jaya is not exactly the safest neighborhood as far as security was concerned. And I dread the day when someone do come in and rob our hospital at night. We really need to get the security beefed up. I pray that we wouldn't be a target.

Lunch Delight

In the last couple of weeks, my Dad had been complaining of headache. He had also been laser on his diet - he loved his lamb - and ran out of his tablets. Sure enough, his blood pressure was up. So, I changed some of his treatment, as well as plan for a new pair of glasses for him. He needed a new prescription.

So, right after the clinic was done - Anita was present as well - we went out for lunch near the hospital. For some time, I had been wondering what the Kelantan Delights restaurant had to offer. There was where we went for lunch.

A nice restaurant, and the food and service was better than we expected. Our order came pretty fast - there were not that many patron there then - and the waiters were pretty attentive. And they were from Kelantan judging from their dialect, which was appropriate.

We ordered from the a la carte range, rice, vegetables, fried whole fish, some rendang as well as kerabu mangga. The place also offered set lunch if you were on the go, but since we wanted to share the food around, we did otherwise.

The fish was very nice, and so was the ayam percik. Kerabu was also better than expected and we finished everything. We even had desserts - against my advice, Dad had some tapai.

I would definitely be returning. I wasn't sure if the recommendation applied to all their branches - in have only visited the outlet at Subang Jaya so far. Service was quick and food was good. Price was not bad either - the set menu offered good value.

My Hospital is Famous

I was sure most KL folks had learned about the shroud on one of the windows of the North Tower o my hospital by now. It was in the news, and this being a Sunday, the place was packed.

I came a bit late for my morning rounds today but the crowd had already started coming in by 9 am. By the afternoon, it was fever pitch. I didn't have any patients in the afternoon and was only called in at about 6. I couldn't get to the car park.

I ended up having to walk about half a mile, parking my car at the roadside in SS 12. It was gridlocked. And the crowd wasn't exactly the forgoing type. I couldn't get through and decided just to walk.

It was still full at the moment even though it was already dark outside. I was just waiting for another scan to be reported, but otherwise I was just chilling in. I just managed to retrieve my car. No dents.

I would be on call again on Tuesday, another public holiday being Deepavali. It is going to be another nightmare day, unless somebody do something about it, or the Police would come over to watch over traffic.
