The Day Before

Wow! The myth about today being a slow day had been shattered. My clinic this morning was full, and being on call today, I had admissions coming into critical care bards already. Emergency Room also looked filled. Hopefully not many admissions as I planned for a slow day leading up yo the election day tomorrow.

I will be voting at Bukit Antarabangsa. And after listening to scary stories from colleagues who had their name disappeared from the registry, I was keeping my fingers crossed. On the blast check, my name was up. Hopefully, there would be no surprises tomorrow.

So, a quick early morning ward round first thing tomorrow morning, followed by a drive to my Mum's and we planned to vote there with the rest of the family.

Wishing for a peaceful voting day ......

Wide Awake

I had a touch of the insomnia last night. Not sure why. I wasn't planning to watch the Manchester derby - which United lost I might add. I just couldn't go to sleep. And the thing that stuck to my mind was one of my senior colleague who had a heart ailment which came out of the blue.

The gentleman would be having some procedures on Tuesday morning, and I'm praying that things would work out OK. I was yet to receive any update at the moment.

Back to Work

It was never easy to get back into the groove after you've been away. But at least, I did not have to come back straight to be on call. I would have the whole week to my usual activities, although I have a fair amount of work to keep me going.

I came to the hospital early, partly due to the fact that Japan is an hour in front - meaning the usual time I woke up there was 6.30am, translating to 5.30am here in Kuala Lumpur. I also had to do a bit of sorting out with my lab coats and my bags etc, not to mention some stuff to bring to the hospital for my nurses and all. I still had plenty of time to kill when I got in at Subang Jaya.

After seeing some referrals and catching up with the old cases, it was time to head over to Desa ParkCity for my clinic there. I have just done them, and was about to leave. Starving. I could do with an early lunch later. Maybe some proper Malaysian lunch. I was done with Japanese food for now …. at least for the next few days ……

The Storm Before the Calm

It had been much busier than expected. A couple of patients had a bad turn and they all needed sorting out. A few also needed handing over before I leave for my Kyoto Trip tonight. It had been a long day. Mixed in the middle, the drive to ParkCity, as well as meeting up with Puan Anita for lunch. Plus a quick stop at the apartment to retrieve my MacAir charger.

The clinic was also busier than anticipated with a couple of admissions. When I finally got things sorted, it was time to rush back home, have a quiet dinner with the boys, getting ready to get to the airport. I'll probably be asleep as soon as the plane took off.

More entries from the Kyoto trip here.

Post-call Monday

Post-take days were always more tiring than the actual on call days. Add to that the phone calls which would probably interrupt your evening about the patients in the ward. I tended to let my schedule be empty form the days after the calls.

And last night was a busy one. I managed to get the post-call round sorted out early, but still I had to cancel my clinic at ParkCity. I was too tired to make the trio across town. Anita also came to the hospital to see one of my colleagues about her fever. Test results excluded dengue, but she had to be put on antibiotics for her cough and swollen tonsils. So, we hung around for lunch before she left to pick up the boys from school.

I then took a short nap at the Doctor's mess while waiting for the afternoon clinic. Luckily, there wasn't too many patients. This was followed by a long ward round before I finally managed to leave for home in time for the United game after Maghrib. My mood didn't get better with the lethargic United display. Deservedly, we were knocked out .......

I was just been woken up by a phone call from the wards, and since then found it difficult to drift off back to sleep. Tomorrow would be my packing day for the trip to Kyoto on Wednesday night. Better get some rest ......
