Working Sundays

I will be doing two Sunday calls in a row at the beginning of the month and then will be in JB the weekend after to attend a conference in JB. Anita wanted to join me there but after going through the itinerary decided against it. My schedule then would be packed and I planned to take the first flight back on the Sunday to do my rounds.

Upon hearing that, she scrapped the plan.

Wouldn’t mind working Sundays but I would make sure that the Monday after that would be a light day. No procedures or clinic. If possible.

Working Sundays also meant that there would be no afternoon photowalk for the week.

Behaving

It has been almost a week since the implementation of the new HMIS system at SJMC and it had been a trying one. There were quite a few mishaps but in the end considering the doom and gloom we were anticipating, the week ended pretty much where we started. Nobody really knew what to expect.

Some people were impacted more than others. I had a relatively slow week apart from the weekend when I was on call. The clinic was pretty light until this morning where it ran over until after lunch.

I was on call today and the hand overs seemed to be OK. An admission earlier got her medications missing, but it was easily rectifiable. Despite the busy clinic I found the new system to be workable. The problem I had earlier was with ordering CT scans. Thos would need sorting out since I would be ordering many more of those!

Let’s see how things pan out in the second week ….

2am Webinar

One of the requirement of running a lab would be to accumulate enough CME points every year. One of my lab was due for renewal and the inspector from the US were scheduled to come in early November. They asked me to attend one webinar prior to the visit. The only problem was, it was beamed live from the US, which was due to start at 2 pm.

That would mean a 2am start for us here in Malaysia. You can asked questions at the end of the session through your microphone or just by typing. But by halfway through the second speakers, I started to nod off. The topic was so boring.

I tried coffee. But nope. That didn't work. As soon as session was done, I submitted the attendance log and went straight to bed. I couldn't remember much about what was discussed.

Overslept the next morning, but luckily it was a Thursday. I don't have any clinic scheduled.

Wet Morning

I was dreading the traffic this morning. Not much for me although I would have to rush over to Park City after the morning rounds in Subang, but more for Idlan. He has a Math paper this morning.

I woke up at 4 this morning and saw it was raining heavily outside. When I woke up at 6, it was still raining. It was still drizzling when I drove to work and taking an alternative route to Federal Highway I was able to breach the ward after half an hour.

Done with the morning sessionBack to baseI was happy that Idlan also reached school well on time. The traffic into town was quite light.

It had cleared up by the time I drove to Park City this morning although it was still heavier than usual. All in all, it was better than expected.

Assessment Day

It was going to be a big few days for Ara Damansara Medical Centre when the MSQH assessor hit the place for their audit. They had been preparing for a number of months and since I was in charge of the labs, I had to do my bid.

The morning briefing started at around 8 am, which meant that I had to delay my morning rounds. By the time the talk was done, my phone had already been ringing a number of times. I drove back to Subang just about the time when the morning rush hour was dissipating, and was finished by lunch.

Waiting for my afternoon meetingThe morning trafficThen came the time for my interview. The assessor was meticulous but had yet to go through the lab completely. After a 30 minutes chat, she got on with her assessment and I was dismissed for my afternoon rounds back in Subang.

So, it was a day of driving back and forth. Luckily the heavy traffic which was plaguing the Subang Airport Road had eased off following the completion of the LRT line. Back home after the afternoon rounds really made me tired both mentally and physically. Time for an early night trying to convince Idlan to go to sleep early. It would be his English papers tomorrow.
