The 5S Has Landed

So, the 5S has landed on our shores. And Low Yat had a few units available. It didn't take long for me to get hold of a 32Gb grey unit. Decided against the gold. Too obvious, but they were available. There were plenty of 5C units of various colour on display as well. But I think it won't be long before the 5S ran out of stock. They were flying off the shelf really fast.

No news as to when the local units of 5S and 5C would be made available at the Apple retail shops. Until then, the phone would thrive at places like Low Yat.

First impression? The fingerprint sensor worked much better than I thought. I have yet to program my nipple to unlock the phone. I programmed Idlan's thumb and he was well impressed. The phone was also snappy. Camera was good, but ineould need to take it for a ride - tomorrow I guess before I could compare it with my HTC One.

I also updated my Celcom SIM. Theoretically I should be able to surf on LTE speed similar to my HTC One on the Maxis network. At work in Subang, the LTE speed on the HTC was bang on. Uploading photos onto Flickr was blazing. Downloading was something else. At my home in Gombak, I have yet to see an LTE signal detected on my HTC. The fastest was HSDPA. But not in my study. It was only EDGE down there.

Expect more update on battery life, the camera and of course some cases over the coming days.

Low Yat Time

Yesterday was one hell of a busy day. Starting with the tax submission, runs to the bank followed by a quick lunchtime visit to see a friend who had just had an operation the day before. And then after that, a walk around Low Yat to check out the latest buzz on what was going on in the local gadget scene.

The Galaxy S4 was finally out, and there were plenty of units available from both the official and the not-so-official retailer, and the abundance of phones in terms of availability made sure that there were not much price distortion going on. Most of the vendors were trying to outdo each other by adding on packages such as covers and screen protectors. Me? After having a feel of the device for a good 20 minutes, I decided to stick with my Nexus 4.

But in the middle of this all, I was still intrigued by the Blackberry. But to give up either the iPhone or the Nexus for it? Not quite yet. Even though I got SIMs for the three main local telcos, I just couldn't justify carrying three phones in one go! The Nexus just worked fine as a communication hub.

Printer Ahoy

After the scouting yesterday, I returned to Low Yat, this time to buy the network printer which I eyed yesterday. I needed somebody to drive the MPV as I would need help with the 32 kg printer. Anita actually finalised the purchased as I actually short-listed a couple of units. She preferred the Canon unit as it was fully wireless. No cable needed, well, at least that was what it was claimed.

Low Yat was really packed on the Sunday afternoon, complete with a long queue at the lift, and at the front drive where we load up the MPV. Off we went straight after to the apartment to deposit the printer on the desk of my study. Hard work, but hopefully it would be worth it ......

Saturday Walk

Saturday afternoon. And I happened to be off - even though I was still on call. Decided to take a walk. With my camera if course. Hopefully the weather would be cooperative.

Sunday Stroll

It was an unexpected free Sunday afternoon. I was meant to be on call, but due to a last minute swap, I was on call on Friday instead. And it was a busy one. It took me the whole morning to sort out the patients, and after taking Irfan out for his treat during lunch, I had the whole afternoon to myself.

So, I took a stroll to Low Yat to get myself more memory cards for the upcoming trip to Fraser's Hill. As expected, the place was full and traffic was bad. I instead parked at KLCC and took the covered walkway all the way to Pavilion. A nice relaxing stroll, stopping at a couple of cafe for snacks. It looked like Samsung was pushing the Galaxy S III as there we're promotions everywhere around Bukit Bintang. To e honest, I was not really sure if I could trust the dealers there as some of the unit I suspect were not for the local market. The warranty may not be honored.

Making my way across from KLCC to Pavilion and then Low YatArrived at the fountain and crossing acrossHALT!That is a curious one. Fried steak!Every road lead to Bukit BintangIn front of PavilionI guess they do this every Sunday afternoon maybe .....The Sandisk memory card at Low Yat was much cheaper than the one I bought in Bangsar the other day. For the same price, I got a faster unit instead. Other things I looked at was the new retina display MacBook Pro. There we units on display, but if you wanted to buy it, one had to put an order in as they were mostly about a couple of weeks away. Size-wise, it would be a drag to carry one around as I was so used to my 11-inch Mac Air.
