Revision Weekend

No outing this weekend since the boys were in the middle of their end-of-year exams. So, the home situation was rather tense, and my job was to ferry the food in.

Irfan wanted some Chinese and Idlan wanted some beef. Obliged. And still they were late to go to sleep last night. Getting them up for school this morning proved to be a challenge.

Will be on call today, so I won't be able to help out tonight. Best of luck boys ...

Immigration Time

My current passport had expired. But since I was imposed by a traveling and flying ban by Puan Anita, I didn’t bother renewing my passport. In December, me, Anita and the boys were planning to hit Singapore, so it was time to renew. The boys were still at school, and since I seldom had free time, I had to utilise all the free mornings I had. So, today was the day.

I got all my documents ready ahead of time. I even stopped at the Immigration Office a couple of days back to double check on the documents I needed to bring - I can be like that. I was told that all I needed to bring was my old passport, my MyKad and to fill in a simple sheet of paper on my details and the rest would be taken care of on the day at the counter.

RM300 for 5 years ....Heading out happy ...I set off to the Immigration Office at Wangsa Maju, about 15 minutes away from the Gombak House just after 7 this morning. The office opened at 7.30 and there was already a queue when I arrived. I was the 35th customer to be served. The officer checked that my documents are legit and I was told to take a seat and wait for my number. It was around 7.50 am then.

My number was called at around 8.10, handed in the documents, had my photograph taken, thumbprints scanned, documents signed. Got my number back and asked to wait to pay at another counter in the next 15 minutes. I was already with my payment receipt at 8.28 am. The lady behind the cashier told me that my passport would be ready in about an hour’s time. Time for breakfast I thought.

A mamak restaurant at the end of the row sorted that out, and I was back after 20 minutes. I started browsing the net and checked my twitter feed. And just before 9am, my number was up for passport collection!

All was settled within 90 minutes without any fuss! Great stuff, and the staffs were friendly too. Even the security - mainly made up by Rela officers were kind and helpful. They had a separate lines for customers with young children and old folks. They would be served and attended to much faster. But to be honest, it couldn’t have been much faster than this!

I was very happy and impressed. The system was efficient as advertised, and I was glad that I went to a smaller office where the crowd was smaller. Next week it would be Anita’s and the boys’ turn. After being through the process today, I was not worried at all about what they would have to go through.

A few suggestions would be to have a bigger screen for the numbers - the one there had only a couple of lines and there was no numbers on top of each of the individual counters. The PA system was also out of commission on the day, so you had to pay attention to when your number were called. I didn’t have time to see if there were toilet facilities and sure available, as I was sure those may come in handy …..

Great job guys!

Kaffeinette

No, this wasn't a typo. That's the name of the cafe my cousin, Shari and his partner, just opened at SS15, a traffic jam hub not far from my clinic. Yes, traffic was an issue there but hey, this is Subang Jaya!

Last Wednesday evening, he held a doa selamat and opened the cafe for relatives and cousins. It rained heavily in the preceding hours and even I got stuck driving from the apartment with parts of the road leading out of KL was closed due to flash flooding. It took Anita and my Mum an hour and a half to get there from Gombak and all of us missed the doa.

But we reached there in time for the food.

Suri, and the owner, Shari

A typical cafe, it served great coffee, comfort food and of course, cakes and desserts. I didn't have time to explore the menu, but one of the main attraction was ironically nasi lemak.

The place was packed when we arrived, and since I had yet to take dinner, I was starving. The nasi lemak definitely took care of that.

Creative wiring

A nice chat ensued as another cousin of mine had just returned from Haj the week before. Time to catch up.

Talking about traffic jam, it was certainly a challenge around this part of SS15. This was made worst by roadworks and building as part of the MRT round the corner from there. Hopefully the traffic would improve as the building was completed. Otherwise, the location of the cafe would've been perfect.

Awaiting for the signage to be erected

A single visit would not give a real idea of how the place would take off. I would give it another visit traffic and work permitting in the coming weeks.

Back to Gombak

The last few days had passed on pretty fast. The weekend was over for the boys. Time for an early night, for school tomorrow.

I plan to take a quick nap, set the alarm for midnight and see if I could get up. United playing Chelsea tonight ...

Sunny Sunday

We were cleaning the apartment in preparation to return to Gombak this morning. The boys had been doing their reading for their exams in a couple of weeks, and now with their console which would be staying at the apartment.

Last chance for them to play until after the exams. The sunny weather outside made going out for a stroll a nice idea.

The flowers Idlan got for Anita yesterdayRoti canai for breakfast

Instead, I forced myself to stay in, ending up by taking a nap in front of the TV. I needed that after a busy week. It would be morning clinic at Park City tomorrow, so a rest might just be a good idea.

By the time the cleaning was done, the weather had changed. Looked like there would be thunderstorm looming. Would wait until that passed by before setting off.

Big football match at midnight tonight. Not sure if I could muster it with a long day coming tomorrow ...
